Today, this look of Yao from Honor of Kings is finally ready to meet everyone! A tremendous amount of care and thought went into everything from early pre-production to the final shutter click. To channel that featherlight, sprite-like fairy aura inherent to the character, I selected a vibrant turquoise-cyan short wig. Trimming and styling took quite some time, and by incorporating delicate micro-braids on both sides alongside pastel-pink hair accessories, the resulting dimensional layering left me genuinely satisfied. For makeup, the focus was placed on soft pink eyeshadow and matching pink contact lenses, complemented by pale pink blush dusted across the cheeks while keeping the skin base immaculate and dewy to imbue the entire mood with gentle tenderness.
The costume is brimming with intricate nuances: the white ruffled trim on the bodice pairs beautifully with an oversized pastel-pink bow, centered by an ornate chest piece encrusted with colorful gemstones. The pair of translucent, iridescent wings on my back reflected breathtakingly unique sheens under the sunlight; during the shoot, I specifically asked the photographer to catch side-backlit angles to maximize the wings' crystalline, luminous translucency. The bottom is a voluminous, multi-tiered tutu skirt that billowed and swirled gracefully amidst the surrounding blossoms as I moved, delivering gorgeous visual poetry. For footwear, I styled white ruffled ankle socks with block-heeled boots, which not only visually elongated leg lines but also provided sturdy, dependable footing across the uneven terrain of the flower field.
Shooting in a sea of blossoms presented unique challenges in lighting and terrain. To sidestep harsh midday overhead sunlight, we chose the golden hour approaching dusk, when the light softens into a dreamy, golden diffusion. Navigating the flower beds demanded extreme care to avoid crushing the blossoms, and with the substantial volume of both the fairy wings and puffy skirt, striking poses that felt kinetic and lively rather than stiff was no easy feat. I explored various gestures—looking back over my shoulder, gentle hops, and extending hands toward the camera—striving to capture that playful, mischievous yet celestial charm. The photographer had an incredible instinct for candids, consistently capturing those fleeting moments when the breeze caught the billowing hemline.
Cosplaying in a setting completely enveloped by fresh flowers was a truly extraordinary experience. Even though there were quite a few insects and the hemline gathered a bit of soil, seeing these finished frames makes every bit of hardship thoroughly worthwhile. I hope this flower-field portrayal of Yao brings everyone a breath of fresh, enchanting visual beauty.
