When I took this photo, I didn't intentionally design overly complex movements. Just standing in front of that convention backdrop filled with various posters and lights, I wanted to capture a bit of an everyday yet character-fitting atmosphere. In the imagination of my personal headcanon / original setting, the interaction between Yao and Xishi is always that kind of unspoken tacit understanding. This time, both chose a style leaning towards casual wear or school uniforms—a black suit with a blue and white striped tie and a loose gray coat, paired with their respective exclusive hair colors and accessories. This both retained the characters' recognition and prevented the shoot from looking constrained due to overly heavy clothing. This plain ring on the hand and the gesture of interlocking fingers count as the largest proportion of details in the entire photo. During post-processing, the most natural skin texture of the hands was deliberately preserved. When the light and shadow hit, it just happened to leave that straightforward yet exclusive sense of companionship in the frame.
It's not easy to capture a clean couple-themed/partner feel in a noisy environment like a convention. A lot of the time, it relies on finding the right angle at the scene to avoid cluttered crowds. This time, a large aperture was specially used to blur the background, concentrating the gaze on the hands and part of the characters' silhouettes, while those colorful posters stuck in the background turned into great environmental supplements. Although it's just a headcanon / original setting look without completely replicating the official original skins, we both feel this can better get close to that relaxed state filled with a bit of boyish charm and healing vibe when the two interact daily. The material of this outfit actually heavily tests the sense of layering; the fabrics of the striped tie and gray coat can present different textures under the light, and some attempts were made in selecting and grooming the wig colors and materials. Coordinated with the calligraphic English watermark at the bottom, the quiet atmosphere belonging to the two's private treasured moments becomes even stronger.
As a cosplayer, when shooting couple-themed or partner-oriented content, the most important thing is to relax. Once the body is tense, it's hard for the struck poses to embody the natural flow of emotion between characters. The exact moment the shutter clicked for this photo, we didn't actually count "one, two, three"—it was a completely natural movement of holding hands and raising them together, and the resulting effect turned out even more vivid than contrived posing. Not pursuing hard-contrived poses but restoring an idealized perception of this combination privately might be the greatest joy that headcanon / original setting makeup and coordination bring me. Paired with this straightforward affectionate copywriting, the infectiveness of the photo itself is sufficient to explain everything. The lighting, clothing, hairstyle, and that tightly held hand all found their respective positions at the moment of focus alignment. In the future, I will continue trying this kind of partner-oriented cosplay photography work that can both showcase character traits and carry a bit of a casual, relaxed everyday atmosphere.
