This custom Tsukatsuki Rio cosplay shoot from Blue Archive strived to stay close to the character's setting atmosphere from early conception to on-site execution. Targeted designs were applied in costuming, makeup, props, and lighting cooperation, ultimately presenting visuals infused with a professional secretary vibe and mysterious elements.
For styling, I chose the iconic black suit jacket paired with a pure white turtleneck base, forming a classic black-and-white contrast that clearly highlights the collar area. The lower half features glossy black stockings; this material forms a delicate sheen as lights sweep across, outlining leg contours beautifully. The black heels with red soles serve as the finishing touch of the outfit, as the red soles echo the character's red eyes and unique halo overhead, adding a sharp focal point to the overall black-and-gray tone. To reinforce the character's identity, an ID card lanyard was specially worn, making the pose holding a tablet and stylus look even more like handling official business or recording documents.
During the shoot, the lighting technician used a complementary color lighting scheme of warm red and cool cyan. The cool-toned background highlights the character's cool mystery, while side warm light halos coat the cheeks, shoulders, and legs, creating rich dimensional depth. The halo above and dark wing props behind are highly recognizable elements; presenting a natural levitation effect in front of the lens required considerable effort in prop fixing. Combined with a sofa's everyday environment, we attempted to convey the character's inner tension within a cool, rational atmosphere.
To better match the character's original expression, the makeup focused particularly on the red eyes and details around the eye area, giving the gaze a focused and penetrating quality. The wig texture was also processed beforehand, smoothing out the bangs to conform with the character's sleek, efficient look. Since glossy black stockings and high heels produce strong highlights at certain angles, shooting poses were specifically adjusted to ensure leg placement was orderly while showcasing clothing characteristics effectively.
This final photo captured a very satisfying moment: a centered composition where negative space from the dark sofa behind gives the frame a sense of extension. The expression and body posture maintain a delicate balance—avoiding exaggerated movements and instead conveying the character's signature composure through eyes and pose. Merging virtual character traits with Roleplay and Cosplay photography expressiveness yields visuals featuring both an Anime style and realistic photo texture, making this creation a multi-dimensional representation of the character.
