Attempting to capture the unique aura of Seele wearing her nightmare battlesuit through this set of photos. The combination of red and black heavy armor with lightweight gauze, added with the metallic luster of the leg guards, fills this outfit with a contrast beauty. The moment it is put on, the character's sense of power and fragility can be directly transmitted into body movements.
The quiet environment of the studio is perfect for showing off the metallic borders and dark textures of the armor. In the second picture, I deliberately stretched my body, utilizing the dynamic flow of the skirt hem and streamers to extend the frame and balance the overall visual center of gravity. Meanwhile, the third image with a top-down view of lying down aims to express a sense of silence after stripping away the clamor, storing the coexisting state of rebellion and calmness into the lens.
During the shoot, I paid special attention to the shaping of light and shadow; backlighting and side-backlighting can better highlight the layers of the clothing, keeping the theme from looking dull. Aside from getting the actions in place, the emotional pacing also needed to remain restrained, using a composed rather than ostentatious gaze to express the character. The gauze streamers of this battlesuit are exceptionally photogenic; with a slight creation of airflow, the captured moments become more full of life than static ones.
The color tone in post-processing darkened the greys and reds, echoing the nightmare theme and giving the black, white, and red combination more sharpness. Due to the movement restrictions of the armor, actions required very careful balance maintenance, which is why I particularly love the composition of the second image, possessing both tension and a sense of order. Striving to restore that dream stage is not just imitation, but moreover an expansion and extension of the character setting. Seeing the cool, detached texture presented by Seele in the final photos, the process of this attempt is very much worth savoring.
