Preparing this at-home photoshoot of Unicorn from Azur Lane required far more meticulous care than I initially anticipated. The purple-and-blue gradient double-bun wig is the true soul of the look; to achieve an organic hair flow, I combed it through repeatedly with a steel wig brush and carefully trimmed the face-framing sideburns and bangs to capture her tender, soft demeanor. The buns on either side could not look overly stiff, so leaving a few wispy strands loose was essential for lively realism. For makeup, the focus centered on the eyes and blush. To lean into authentic 2D aesthetics, I selected light-toned colored contact lenses and blended expansive pinkish-purple eyeshadow paired with distinct blush, giving the complexion a radiant glow that complements Unicorn's dreamy persona.

The wardrobe featured a white lace camisole top and shorts, whose scalloped lace trims and plush, soft fabric showed up with wonderful texture on camera. To add visual depth to the frame, I paired them with white over-the-knee Stockings; the subtle contour of the thigh welt visually balanced the softness of the upper body, which was an intentional focus across the photos. The unicorn plushie was an indispensable hand prop—cradling it softened my physical postures and tied the entire theme together.

The scene was staged directly across my bedroom bed, dressed with pure white sheets and accented with a few yellow plush bird toys for pops of warm color. Natural light filtered through the window, harmonizing with soft indoor fill lights to cultivate that languid ambiance of having just awakened. To capture optimal frames, I explored various stances—from sitting in profile looking back, to resting my chin in my hands on my stomach, to touching the edge of the stockings—ensuring every micro-adjustment integrated body lines and props seamlessly into the composition. Throughout the session, I continuously adjusted my line of sight: to capture that naive innocence tinged with delicate intimacy, the camera angles and the tilt of my chin were recalibrated repeatedly. For instance, when hugging the plushie, hand placement was critical—it had to look like a natural embrace without obstructing the delicate lace details of the camisole. To prevent awkward highlights on the legs under the lights, I deliberately chose matte Stockings, ensuring a harmonious balance with the overarching color scheme. The gentle creases in the bedsheets became part of the visual narrative, intentionally preserved to evoke an authentic, lived-in feel. I focused on staying physically relaxed throughout, knowing that any stiffness would make the photos look forced.

I actually tested several makeup iterations for this shoot beforehand. If the eyeshadow base went too deep, the ethereal dreaminess vanished; if the blush was too faint, it lacked anime presence, leading to the refined finish you see here. The wig was similar: the purple-and-blue gradient transitioned smoothly under direct light, and while indoor settings sometimes demand slight grading to match true-to-life tones, the direct out-of-camera results were already deeply satisfying. Although the unicorn plush prop was modest in size, it served as an ideal visual accent, breaking up visual monotony with its endearing charm.

The greatest joy of At-home photography is pure relaxation. Without the rush of traveling to location shoots or coordinating intricate backgrounds, I could immerse myself completely in dialogue with the character. Seeing the images in camera felt like bringing Unicorn's quiet, lovely essence to life. Although the shooting took hours, the moment the final deliverables came together, every single subtle adjustment proved entirely worthwhile.
