I completed this outdoor location shoot for Asuma Toki on a railway platform. Having seen many wonderful cosplay sets from Blue Archive before, I took advantage of the cool weather to tackle this student character with long blonde hair and a signature halo. Although it is a standard JK uniform look, I poured plenty of thought into the styling details to achieve a satisfying level of fidelity.

For the costume, the sky-blue cardigan jacket had great texture, with its physical color slightly brighter than in the photos. The crisp collar of the white inner shirt paired with a light blue bow tie lent an alert, energetic feel. For the lower half, I paired a black pleated skirt with black Over-the-knee socks, loafers, and a vintage brown faux-leather shoulder bag, completing the classic collegiate style. Walking outside in this outfit drew quite a few glances, largely because the black-and-light-blue ring halo on top was especially eye-catching; although designed with stability in mind, walking under low outdoor shelters still required caution to avoid knocking it off.

For makeup, to stay true to the anime character design, I wore bright blue colored contact lenses to enhance eye translucency, layering noticeable reddish blush around the eyes and cheeks to capture that distinctive character ambiance—a marked difference from daily makeup and a vital step in channeling the character's spirit.

The shooting location was an outdoor light rail platform. Overcast skies with soft, diffused lighting proved exceptionally well-suited for shooting this JK uniform. Without harsh, direct sunlight, facial contours remained soft, achieving great three-dimensional depth without complex reflector setups. The railway tracks and fences in the background provided great visual leading lines, deepening the depth of field and making the subject pop from the backdrop. The platform's yellow safety line, grey metal railings, and distant city silhouettes created a scene that felt grounded in everyday life yet rich with narrative charm.

During the shoot, I tried various lively poses—such as flashing peace signs, balancing on one leg, and slinging the bag over my shoulder. Even in chunky-soled black loafers, balancing on one leg near the platform edge tested core stability, but stretching into different angles kept the entire set dynamic rather than stiff. The photographer was also in great sync, capturing candid moments like adjusting my collar or slipping hands into pockets, which made the photos feel authentic and alive.

Ultimately, cosplay isn't just about putting on a costume; it's about bringing the character to life through makeup, demeanor, and expression. In portraying Asuma Toki, I aimed to convey a cheerful demeanor with her own distinct personality, keeping expressions relaxed and natural while posing. The cardigan's deep pockets easily held small essentials, adding practical convenience.

Post-processing avoided heavy, complicated grading, focusing on subtle skin tone and environmental color adjustments to maintain a clean, translucent Japanese photography style. Because the blue-white-black color scheme already provided a strong visual anchor, an overly busy backdrop would have distracted from the focus. Choosing a railway setting came from a love for its authentic, slice-of-life texture, which resonated deeply with the character's everyday campus vibe.

As for footwear, despite the heel height, walking across the flat platform pavement wasn't tiring, making them ideal for outdoor shoots. However, for extended walking, I still recommend bringing a backup pair of flat shoes, as maintaining peak shooting condition for hours takes considerable stamina. Staying hydrated between takes prevented overheating while wearing the wig and cardigan. Treating every shoot with care—from initial prep to shooting, curation, and editing—makes every step meaningful. Selecting final shots was a tough choice because each take carried a distinct mood, but we ultimately chose these most representative captures. Recreating a beloved character in my own way and documenting the journey was deeply fulfilling.
