This Lunar New Year Qipao look for Misaki has been in preparation for some time, and today I'd like to share a few detailed reflections on the final photos.
Regarding character interpretation, Misaki in Blue Archive naturally carries an air of calm elegance. Thus, the design of this Lunar New Year Qipao focused on preserving that poised aura while infusing festive holiday cheer. The outfit is crafted from white satin fabric with a rich tactile texture; red piping along the collar and lapel paired with Chinese-style cutout frog buttons creates a classic red-and-white contrast. What pleased me most was the red bow tassel hair accessory, which balanced the visual center of gravity and added a lively touch to the frame. As for the fluffy white beast tail coordinated with the costume, its generous volume introduced a soft, adorable nuance so the styling wouldn't feel overly stern.
For hair color, I selected long straight black hair with blunt bangs faithful to the character, achieving great fidelity. This shoot utilized the set at @Cancan Photography Studio—an exquisitely arranged Chinese antique room. The background featured dark carved hardwood folding screens adorned with pink floral branches and paper lanterns, while the tabletop displayed traditional gold ingots and red envelopes, with an ink-wash painted paper umbrella resting on the right. The textures of these props harmonized with the costume's palette, and the warm yellow lighting endowed the entire scene with an authentic New Year holiday ambiance in this Cosplay photography.
In terms of posing, we explored several moods. The first photo features a relaxed seated pose, holding a black hair tie while looking into the lens to create a casual, slice-of-life feel. I adore the second over-the-shoulder pose, which elegantly showcases the qipao's side silhouette and the tail behind, lending an effortless playfulness when gazing toward the camera. The third formal seated posture appears dignified and graceful, with hands clasped near the knees; paired with Black over-the-knee stockings and black shorts, it visually elongates leg lines and exudes gentle warmth. The fourth shot adopted a low upward angle, utilizing the red lanterns behind and gold props below to add visual dynamism.
Balancing restraint and relaxation in posture, I've always felt that Cosplay photography is not just about costume replication, but capturing the character's inner mood in a specific context. Pairing black shorts with Black over-the-knee stockings instead of a full traditional skirt allowed greater freedom of movement while retaining 2D anime playfulness. Wearing this combination with a qipao requires mindful sitting posture during shooting to ensure leg contours appear smooth and natural.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the finished photos. In a set brimming with Chinese New Year elements, shooting on a real studio set made getting into character much easier. The photographer handled light and shadow skillfully, blending the white satin, red trim, black stockings, and red props harmoniously. Through these varied camera angles, we successfully conveyed Misaki's unique holiday charm in Blue Archive, making this a highly complete Lunar New Year Qipao cosplay creation.
