Upon getting the final photos of this NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Hu Tao cosplay in her Kitty look, the first thing on my mind was how to present that sweet yet playful feeling. Differing from her original setting, this pink-themed outfit combined with cat styling elements actually places higher demands on the cleanliness of the makeup and the softness of the lighting. For the studio set, a pure pink base paired with white Roman columns and gauze curtains was chosen, attempting to create a dreamlike "princess afternoon tea" vibe.
Regarding props, I specially selected a miniature strawberry cake and a multi-tiered dessert stand to echo those pink-and-blue bows on the costume. To capture Hu Tao's "number one again!" vitality during the shoot, the posing emphasized a sense of agility, such as tilting the body slightly and keeping hand movements naturally relaxed. The overall composition in Figure 1 captures the layers of the skirt hem and the drape of the gauze curtains behind me, aiming to keep the frame rich without looking cluttered. The close-up in Figure 2 holding the cake attempts to capture subtle facial micro-expressions, with a gaze that exudes sweet and confident energy.
As for the wig and hair accessories, this cat-eared headband paired with twin tails and red-and-white bows actually heavily tests the stylist's control; it needs to look fluffy and cute without overshadowing the character's facial contours. The lace on the skirt hem and the bright-colored bows are prone to overexposure under strong lights, so the angle of the incoming light source was strictly controlled during the shoot, and the reflector fill light managed to perfectly bring out the catchlights in the eyes and the clothing textures. The post-processing also preserved the high-key atmosphere of this pink-themed outfit, making the skin tone more translucent without losing skin texture, echoing the pink and white of the costume.
Doing cosplay is actually not just about recreating a character, but a comprehensive expression of aesthetics and technique. How to endow a character with dynamic emotions within a static frame is something pondered during every shoot. This time, I tried to strengthen the "Kitty" concept using cream color palettes and heavy sugar elements. Compared to her heroic and valiant combat style, this soft and cute look requires a more delicate mastery of aura. I hope what everyone sees is not just the character herself, but also the detailed thoughts we put into this styling. Hopefully, the treatment of colors and details in this cosplay photography session allows everyone to feel Hu Tao's soft cuteness and vitality.
