[Hiyuki Cosplay] Cold Front of the Wuthering Waves World, This Sword Breaks Through the Past

When we got this photo, the only thought in my mind was that descriptive line—this sword, cutting through the past. Actually, before today, I had been preparing for this look for quite a long time. Today, I just want to simply share some of my genuine feelings about doing this Hiyuki cosplay with everyone.

Once the lighting positions in the studio were adjusted and the cold blue light hit my body, the character's serene yet resolute feeling instantly surged up. To be honest, this costume's design is truly exquisite. It adopts a classic red and white color scheme overall, with a modified lower hem featuring pleats and a high slit design, paired with a deep blue waist seal and leather metallic straps. This design not only possesses the etherealness and purity of traditional Japanese-style photography but also adds the capability of a wandering martial artist and warrior. The wide white gauze sleeves are spliced with semi-transparent fabric, and the red diamond mesh textures and three-dimensional petal embroidery on them truly turn thin white cloth into a very rich layering effect.

That pose in Figure 2, holding the sword and leaning forward, was actually not particularly easy to execute while wearing this outfit in the studio. Especially that white long-handled weapon in hand; although its visual effect is a perfect match for this styling, it still carries quite a bit of weight in hand. To shoot that kind of crisp and neat combat frame, I repeatedly adjusted the height of my arms and the leverage points. That low-angle shot, combined with the cold-toned highlights the photographer intentionally created beforehand, instantly maximized the narrative depth of the character "blocking out the outside world and moving forward alone." I was trying hard to control my expression at that time; at the moment the camera froze the frame in Figure 2, my eyes didn't overexert to show anger, but were rather filled with a coldness and determination that comes from seeing through the mundane world and swinging the blade to sever bonds.

On the other hand, the perspective in Figure 1 is relatively softer. I relaxed a bit at that time, closing my eyes to rest while holding the long sword in front of me, next to a black-backed oil-paper umbrella with red flowers. Placing Figure 1 and Figure 2 together actually perfectly presents the two coexisting states of this character, moving and static. When we set up the scene beforehand, we specially pulled a semi-transparent blue gauze curtain, revealing a faint outline of flowers in the background. I love this composition under light and shadow because that cool-and-warm contrasting atmosphere thoroughly elevates the brightness of this costume, while keeping the dark areas sufficiently deep.

Although the process of doing Anime cosplay is tough—such as putting on the wig, adjusting the makeup, and neatening the costume, with every step requiring a lot of thought—being able to encounter an outfit with such exquisite details and a compelling character setting is actually very lucky. Especially when I truly sat under the spotlight, that sense of immersion made me feel that at this moment, I was Hiyuki herself. I actually really love that sense of resolution in this character to "cut through the past," without dragging her feet, maintaining her own boundaries and sharp edge in a cruel world.

This time, the photos didn't undergo too many special effects modifications in post-processing, mainly focusing on restoring the clean and neat nature of the character itself. White hair combined with a grim makeup and styling heavily tests the three-dimensionality of facial features, but I am very satisfied with the overall feeling captured. If you are also considering trying this kind of relatively serene martial arts style look, you can definitely experiment more with color clashing between different blacks, whites, greys, and high-saturation red, which is highly photogenic.
