When shooting this set of Yukino Yukinoshita, I wanted to convey her characteristic aloofness infused with subtle warmth. For the outfit, I chose her highly iconic white inner shirt and light blue knit cardigan; the navy blue bow tie at the neckline serves as a crucial visual anchor, neutralizing the softness of the cardigan while introducing a touch of Campus style outfit and formality. The white fluffy beret on top was selected to fit the character's winter attire ambience, adding a soft, fuzzy texture to the overall styling. For this character, straight long black hair with slightly curled side locks forms her very soul. I specially adjusted the wig strands to let side locks fall naturally along the cheeks, which contoured the face shape well and restored that distinct, strand-by-strand line definition seen in the anime.
Choosing a pure white background during the shoot actually carried considerable risk, as it can easily flatten the image or make the subject lack dimension. However, I wanted to leverage this high-key negative space to highlight Yukino Yukinoshita's serene, detached sense of aloof stance. Photographically, I selected a large softbox as the key light to ensure even, translucent facial illumination, paired with side rim lighting to outline the sleek shine of her long hair. This not only rendered skin tone fair and clear, but also accentuated the lightweight texture of the light blue cardigan. For Photo 1, I selected a half-body composition, hands softly clasped in front of the chest, eyes slightly lowered looking directly into the lens. This pose required me to project her cold exterior with a warm heart—leaning toward the cooler side—with slightly elongated eyeliner and a gaze filled with steadfast calm. Photo 2 featured a planned dynamic sequence: one hand lightly supporting the beret brim while the other sleeve hung naturally, tilting her head slightly upward to introduce a touch of tsundere charm and lively ambience.
In terms of makeup, I avoided heavy eyeshadows, emphasizing instead crystal-clear eye makeup and clean lip color to strive for a natural skin texture under camera lenses. The post-processing direction for the entire set was equally clear: focusing mainly on clarity enhancement and edge sharpening without applying excessive ambient color filters, preserving original clothing colors and natural skin tones. This White background photography set tested expression strength considerably, as without scene context support, everything relied on facial expressions and garment details. When adjusting poses, I consciously paid attention to hand expressions, avoiding stiff posing in favor of following body weight distribution and relaxed composure, making frames resemble candid snapshots of daily life. The white dress featured layered paneling; as I moved, the skirt hem gently undulated, and I thought during shooting how this design matched Yukino Yukinoshita's character—seemingly fragile on the outside, yet possessing layers of inner conviction and strength. Expressing a character through this lens was a deeply rewarding personal endeavor, serving as my own interpretation of Yukino Yukinoshita through this photo series.
