Studio shoot for this Honkai: Star Rail Hyacinthia Convention photo—this time we poured significant care into set construction and props. Hyacinthia's costume centers around a red, white, and blue palette; the skirt features multi-tiered ruffled flounces, while the red side-waist coat and gilded piping yielded exquisite tactile texture under studio lighting. The white plush pom-pom across the chest and the blue neckline bow were entirely hand-sewn, paired with a soft light-pink wig sculpted with beast ears on both sides to instantly bring out the character's signature aura. In terms of finer accents, the metallic buckles and waist pouches underwent gentle weathering to prevent harsh reflections under powerful strobes.
Pre-shoot prep work was remarkably intricate. The white wings mounted on my back were custom-fabricated with a lightweight internal frame, yet the shoulder harnesses still required meticulous tension calibration to maintain equilibrium. The staff in hand was topped with a blue translucent orb lined with reflective film, producing subtle, luminous refractions under key lights. To faithfully mirror the scene elements, we brought Little Ica—the crowned unicorn plush—suspending it in the upper left of the frame via clear fishing line to be edited out in post. The staff rod was surprisingly heavier than expected; balancing poses one-handed placed continuous strain on my wrist, requiring short rests every couple of sets.
For the set, we built an artificial lawn dressed with turf, sunflowers, daisies, and delicate blue blossoms, framed by a sculpted stone fountain prop on the right. To create genuine water flow in the fountain, a compact water pump was concealed within. Throughout the session, soap bubbles drifted through the air while assistants blew white feathers and scattered glitter around me, combined with a dyed chiffon rainbow ribbon that instantly layered the composition with fantasy. The rainbow band was pieced together from sheer chiffon; fluttering gently under studio fans, it simulated floating motion that resonated beautifully with the sunny rainbow theme.
The wardrobe permitted expansive dynamic range. To evoke the weightlessness of leaping and floating, I explored poses shifting balance onto a single leg. Extending my left hand outward naturally lifted the skirt's flaring arc, while bending and lifting the right knee allowed the white Stockings and black Mary Janes to create crisp contrast against the green turf, finished with the red bow on the shoe heel as a delightful pop of color. The photographer continuously adjusted vantage points to align the wings and the rainbow chiffon on the same focal plane. Having to land and reorganize the skirt and wing alignment after every jump made the session physically taxing, especially while keeping facial expressions relaxed and the gaze serene—demanding immense core stability.
Post-processing focused primarily on digitally removing the suspension wire, followed by compositing bubbles, starlight, and drifting white feathers. For color grading, to capture that radiant warmth, the overall palette was dialed toward luminous clarity—reducing cool shadow casts while boosting warm highlights to accentuate sunshine and clear skies, echoing the theme of parting clouds to greet the sun. Little Ica on the left received subtle glow effects and edge-softening, rendering it akin to a floating magical familiar.
The true value of a Convention photo lies in documenting the holistic completion of a concept. From costume patterning and prop assembly to studio execution and composite editing, every phase requires continuous dialogue with photographers and crew. Hyacinthia inherently carries a gentle, sunny warmth; bringing her lively, bright presence to life before the lens was a deeply fulfilling creative journey. Blending intricate set styling with deliberate post-production offered rich creative growth for portraying similar fantasy designs in the future.
