For this Touhou Project Remilia shoot, considerable thought was poured into everything from hair and makeup to set design. To recreate the noble yet characteristically dangerous vampire aura of the Scarlet Devil Mansion mistress, I intentionally deepened the red shading at the outer corners of my eyes, pairing it with reddish-brown cosmetic contacts to elongate the eye shape. For the wig, I selected a sky-blue shade with soft fluffy curls, accented on both sides with red roses and crimson tulle, while small black-and-red devil wings were mounted onto my back.
The costume embodies a quintessential Gothic style Lolita aesthetic in wine red and pure white. The corset bustier features crisscrossed red lacing, while tiers of ruffles and flared bell sleeves presented quite the lighting challenge. Because the skirt has so many layers, to ensure its silhouette read sharply on camera, I chose to kneel on a vintage dark velvet sofa. Pairing white fishnet Stockings with red high heels injected sculpted lines into the dark, ornate aesthetic. When holding the wine goblet, matching the wine's rich character meant keeping the wrist subtly relaxed while casting a languid, mildly perilous gaze. The set was styled with white skulls, crimson roses, and vintage carved architectural elements, creating a stark cool-and-warm contrast between the background's cool purple illumination and the warm crimson tones across the subject.
The entire shoot tested facial control and body language. The profile angle raising the wine glass in Photo 1 took several lighting adjustments to nail down; the kneeling pose in Photo 2 required engaged core strength to spread the skirt hem naturally—resting knees directly on the hard floor was rather uncomfortable, but the resulting frame carried immense tension. Photo 3 made use of foreground roses framing the shot against Gothic stained-glass window silhouettes in the background, which, paired with a slightly raised hand, brought that aristocratic mystique to its peak.
The combination of fishnet Stockings and high heels visually elongated leg proportions; this touch of dark, alluring elegance harmonized flawlessly with Remilia's lore. The skull and dark red rose props, together with the white lace of the skirt, forged a cohesive color resonance. I hope these makeup nuances, costume styling, and atmospheric set designs allow fans of Touhou Project and Gothic style to experience the distinctive splendor and mystery of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Although the shoot was physically demanding, seeing the play of light and shadow filtering across the skirt tulle made every bit of effort worthwhile.
