The weather for today's Location shoot was truly on our side, gifting us with a gentle drizzle. I was initially worried heavy rain would disrupt shooting progress, but unexpectedly, the misty air added a soft, natural diffusion filter over every frame. Wet street tiles reflected faint glimmers of light, and walking beneath that transparent plastic umbrella felt as if the entire bustling world had hushed into silence.
I deliberated over the styling details for a long time. For the top, I wore an off-the-shoulder white blouse tied with a black ribbon at the collar and puffy lantern sleeves. For the bottom, I paired it with a high-waisted navy pleated skirt revealing a peek of white lace along the hemline. To recreate character features faithfully for this Amiya cosplay, I wore her signature brown twintail wig and rabbit-ear headband, pinned with two small cross-shaped hair clips. For shoes, glossy black Mary Janes were paired with brownish-grey semi-sheer calf-high Stockings. To inject a pop of contrasting color, I tied a thin blue cord around my left ankle, echoing the skirt. Painting my nails blue also added subtle bonus points in close-up shots.
An outdoor Location shoot is genuinely physically demanding, especially walking over slippery wet pavement in heeled Mary Janes where every step required caution against slipping. The photographer directed me to stand angled away before turning back toward the camera, gracefully lifting my left hand slightly open. Soft raindrops tapped rhythmically against the clear umbrella surface, and by leaning into that rhythm, I captured the most natural, unforced moments. The red brick architecture and green trees in the background created a warm-and-cool contrast; an expansive aperture softened the background, bringing the central subject into sharp focus.
Regarding Amiya, I have always wanted to explore a more casual, slice-of-life interpretation. Without heavy combat gear, the moody street rain allowed her quiet, tender nature to shine through. I simplified my facial expressions, avoiding exaggerated drama—simply turning back beneath the umbrella or offering a gentle smile toward the lens was enough to convey that quiet serenity. Shooting on rainy days can be tricky due to dimmer light, but the perk is wonderfully even, soft lighting without harsh shadows, giving the skin texture a gorgeous look.
Between takes, glancing down at the reflections pooling on the pavement, I immediately asked the photographer to snap a few quick shots. Rain droplets on the clear umbrella, rain-washed streets, and the shifting interplay of light across my clothes—these organic atmospheric touches are nearly impossible to replicate in a studio. Shooting on public streets, occasional passersby watched curiously, but once immersed in character, ambient noise faded away. While smoothing my clothes, I noticed the blouse developed slight creases in the damp air; yet this genuine fabric texture infused the photos with lifelike authenticity, avoiding artificial sterility.
In post-processing, I deliberately preserved the humid mistiness in the frame without aggressive smoothing or artificial grading, honoring the natural cool tones of an overcast rainy day. From finessing outfit details to channeling mood before the lens, the entire process was deeply rewarding. Outdoor shoots always present climate challenges, but the cool rainy palette harmonized unexpectedly well with the white-and-blue attire, breathing authentic life into the finished photos compared to studio work.
I personally adore environmental portraiture steeped in storytelling. This outfit not only satisfied faithful recreation of Amiya in Arknights, but also blended seamlessly into real-world scenery.
