Shooting convention photos in this Sangonomiya Kokomi maid outfit was quite a test of capturing costume details. The palette weaves pink and blue together; under the chaotic lighting of a convention, such colors can easily look premium, yet they are equally prone to looking washed out from glare. So I mainly searched for shaded corners at the venue, using reflectors and overhead ambient lights to balance the exposure. The large gold bell on the chest was the finishing touch—it gently swayed with every step, adding a dynamic feel to the convention photos. The skirt layers multiple tiers of tulle and lace over a blue-and-white striped underskirt; to maintain its volume, a solid petticoat is a must. The heart-shaped apron in front is rich in detail, and slightly lifting the skirt (like in Photo 4) nicely displays its layered texture.
The wig was the trickiest part of the styling. Long pink-to-blue gradient wigs tangle easily and tend to go flat. To achieve the layered look in Photos 1 and 2—shorter in front and longer in back—I used plenty of crimping and styling spray. I chose bright blue contact lenses to echo the blue accents in the outfit. Since Genshin Impact's Sangonomiya Kokomi has a gentle yet resolute aura, I slightly softened my gaze for eye contact. The eye makeup focused on smooth gradient eyeshadow and defined lashes, while the foundation was kept matte for a clean, translucent finish.
I didn't deliberately strike complex poses for these convention photos, preferring natural, subtle movements to highlight the costume details. Clasped hands in front (Photo 1) or a peace sign (Photo 3) felt relaxed and casual amidst the busy crowd. Composition-wise, huge thanks to the convention photographers—they skillfully avoided the messy background crowds by using wide apertures for bokeh. Even though conventions are crowded, that authentic atmosphere carries a vibrant buzz that studio shoots just cannot replicate.
While preparing this Sangonomiya Kokomi cosplay, I repeatedly cross-checked the Genshin Impact character design, adjusting everything from accessory proportions to color saturation. Convention photos may lack studio polish, but their charm lies in raw vitality, capturing genuine, spontaneous moments. Attending the convention while under the weather was exhausting, but seeing these great shots made it all worthwhile. Given the chance, I'd love to shoot this outfit at sunset or against night scenery for a completely different vibe. Reviewing these photos, I wanted to share my thoughts on fabrics and wigs, hoping to offer a helpful reference for fellow Genshin Impact cosplayers.
