This time, I chose to recreate Jean from Genshin Impact, and the entire preparation and shooting process was filled with a sense of ceremony.
A great Genshin Impact cosplay work is built on details. This Jean cosplay outfit was carefully designed with texture differences in the fabrics. The white top features golden patterns and metal rivet embellishments, while the blue bow at the collar creates a classic Mondstadt-style color contrast with the dark blue inner jacket. The shoulders and cuffs both feature three-dimensional designs, especially that golden badge on the shoulder, which looks highly accurate under the lights. The gold-embroidered patterns on the deep blue long gloves, along with the emerald-inlaid belt at the waist, beautifully enrich the layers of the frame when posing. The lower half consists of white trousers with a faint diamond pattern; this choice of Anime-style outfit is more stylish than plain white and visually elongates the body. The hilt of the rapier in my hand has a matte metallic texture with meticulous lacquerwork, and the blue-and-white semi-transparent blade produces excellent light and shadow effects on camera.
The chosen scene for this shoot is a classical theater style, where the dark red velvet curtains, golden tassels, gorgeous golden picture frames, and staggered crystal chandeliers create an atmosphere filled with dramatic tension. The picture frame background and the wooden chessboard in the foreground are highly suitable for Jean's character setting as the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius—effortlessly balancing leisure and solemnity. During the shoot, the photographer made great use of these environmental props. For instance, in the sitting set, the chess pieces in the foreground deepen the depth of field, which, combined with the red high-backed chair, makes my posture appear calm and composed, exuding the dignity of a leader. The standing backward glance and the sword-drawing pose mainly emphasize the knight's loyalty and her sharp readiness to fight.
When portraying Jean, beyond reproducing her appearance, one must capture her temperament. Jean is the type of person who always puts the citizens of Mondstadt first; her gaze must carry a firm sense of justice, yet also a touch of fatigue and tenderness. Therefore, I intentionally kept the makeup clean and fresh, avoiding heavy eyeshadow to emphasize the purity of the blue contact lenses, and chose a more natural eyebrow shape to match her short blonde hair. Adjusting the black bow hair accessory also took quite some time, as I wanted it to look light and effortless.
This entire process gave me a deeper understanding of the character. Through every sword draw and every adjustment of my sitting posture, I imagined her standing at Windrise or in the Knights' headquarters office. Being able to put on this gear, stand in such a textured red velvet setting, and record Jean's determination and elegance from Genshin Impact made this a truly meaningful Cosplay photography experience. This immersive experience is indeed one of the most charming aspects of cosplay.
