Collaborating with photographer A Chai this time, we shot a blue-and-white Chinese-Western eclectic style photo series on location inside a greenhouse. The initial creative intent was quite straightforward: placing this fusion of classical tradition and modern sartorial styling within an organic setting bathed in botanical light and shadow. What captivated me most about this ensemble was its rich structural layering. The upper bodice features a sleeveless neckline lavishly embellished with faux pearl chains, delicate sequins, and dimensional pale-blue floral embroidery. The skirt is breathtakingly ornate—the outer layer consists of translucent sheer tulle trimmed with white lace ruffles, draped over an inner lining of lustrous blue silk satin printed with classical motifs, allowing the airy tulle to sway with effortless lightness in motion. A subtle drawstring cinches the waist, flattering natural body proportions. To complement the silhouette, I selected a traditional round silk fan adorned with bird-and-flower motifs and silky tassels. For accessories, I wore a miniature disc pillbox hat encrusted with pearls and blossoms atop my head, while a pearl choker around my neck echoed the dress's bodice embellishments. The makeup was kept delicate and unexaggerated, preserving straight blunt bangs over long straight black hair, with a generous flush of soft pink blush across the cheeks and earthy tones layered with faint reddish gradients around the eyes to channel a pure, subtly dreamlike aura.
The greenhouse venue proved to be an impeccable choice. The space was filled with weathered timber window frames, clean white draped linen, vintage birdcages, and lush floral greenery blooming in tones of pink, violet, and sky blue. In particular, a small cherub statue holding a planter behind me added the serene tranquility of a classical European manor. What left the deepest impression throughout the shoot was the interplay of illumination. Direct sunlight streamed in through the glass panes, filtering between leafy foliage and structural mullions to paint dappled shadows across the hardwood floor and billowing skirt—an organic lighting dynamic nearly impossible to replicate inside a standard studio. To harmonize with this languid, quiet mood, poses were kept restrained: sitting relaxed across the rug leaning against white linen drapery, or standing beside the windows admiring blossoms and idly turning the round fan. The glancing-back profile in Photo 6 is my personal favorite; I simply leaned naturally along the window sill to let natural outdoor light trace the drape of the skirt and the line of my back, yielding a result far more authentic than rigid posing. From a photographic perspective, shooting with a wide aperture melted the background to accentuate the subject and intricate garment textures, while natural foreground greenery introduced lovely depth of field and an intimate, voyeuristic perspective. The shoot progressed smoothly from start to finish. The outfit harmonized flawlessly with the greenhouse setting, and though several hours on set were physically tiring, seeing how exquisitely the light, shadow, and sartorial details resolved in the final frames made every moment deeply rewarding.
