Every time I put on this classic red and white outfit of Flandre Scarlet from Touhou Project, I always make new discoveries. This time, to get closer to the character's detailed setting, I specially chose a golden-yellow large wavy wig. After multiple rounds of styling, the curl elasticity and glossiness performed much better than before. In terms of costume, detailed optimizations were made from the pleated ruffles of the headpiece to the richly layered red and white patchwork at the cuffs, and further to the multi-layered stiff tulle petticoat of the skirt hem. This way, when actually walking and spinning, the skirt hoop can excellently maintain a cute and fluffy A-line silhouette.

Props are the soul of the entire look. To balance the hand feel, the black long-handled scythe received a special anti-slip treatment at the grip, making it relatively free to swing. The most troublesome part was actually the colorful diamond crystals on the wings. Each piece was hand-polished using high-transparency acrylic, which refracts a very beautiful colorful spectrum under outdoor light. However, they easily get tangled together during movements, so I had to untangle and comb through them every time I changed poses, which truly tested my patience.

For the makeup concept, I used warm reddish-brown eyeshadow to emphasize a slight reddish bloodshot feel under the eyes, paired with a relatively clean base makeup to try and create a translucent and flawless youthful look. Such makeup can both recreate the original illustration style and avoid looking greasy under strong light. For the shoot, we specially chose a high-key environment on an outdoor rooftop, utilizing overexposed diffuse reflection light to simulate the brightness similar to 2D illustrations.

To display the Second Miss's lively yet slightly mysterious personality, posture scheduling is actually crucial. You can't just stand there plainly; instead, you need to make small movements like lifting one foot off the ground or shifting your center of gravity, just like in the pictures, to keep the frame from looking rigid. Even interacting with a teddy bear doll on a whim can capture unexpectedly cute moments. Every time I do a Flandre Scarlet Cosplay, I have to find that subtle balance between innocence and being unhinged—this is probably the most charming part of this character, and what makes Anime cosplay so rewarding through this Cosplay photography experience.
