Convention photos from the TCD convention on July 28, 2024. This Rem cosplay maid outfit features a very high level of fidelity, with a lot of effort put into everything from the wig to makeup and styling. The light-blue bangs covering one eye created a very distinct look, while the white floral hairpiece, along with the pink cross and bow on the side of the hair, served as the soul of the look; securing them took some effort to repeatedly confirm symmetrical placement. For the makeup, to closely match the character's persona, blue-toned contact lenses were chosen, the eyeliner was elongated to enlarge the eyes, red lip gloss added color contrast, and a pale base makeup highlighted that delicate 2D aesthetic.
The costume had numerous details: the black-and-white skirt was distinctly layered, the outer white apron featured multiple tiers of lace and ruffles, and the bow and lace designs at the collar were exquisite, perfectly recreating the 2D design. The detached sleeve design was slightly restrictive during larger movements, but it beautifully set off the overall elegance. Paired with White pantyhose and black Mary Jane shoes, the entire look felt complete and stood out instantly in the convention crowd.
To prepare this styling on the day of the convention, hair and makeup started about two hours in advance. The venue was crowded and the lighting was chaotic, but photographer Ryuji Sakamoto used a large aperture for the Cosplay photography, utilizing background bokeh to make the subject pop—a clean, sharp composition that I really loved. During the shoot, I posed deliberately to complement the camera angles: an outstretched hand for an interactive shot, hands crossed supporting the chin for a gentle pose, a playful finger heart, and finally holding the skirt while balancing on one foot, all to fully present the costume's details.
The final full-body shot in particular showcased the skirt's layers and leg lines via the skirt-lifting gesture, which, combined with the visual elongation of the White pantyhose, turned out wonderfully. Reviewing the raw previews on site, both the lighting and expressions were spot on. Because the skirt was wide and voluminous, walking and turning around on site were somewhat inconvenient; stepping down stairs was especially tricky as I feared stepping on the hem, having to hold the skirt up constantly, which was quite a test of stamina.
The costume's texture showed up remarkably well under the lens, maintaining balanced proportions in both close-up half-body shots and full-body frames. In the bustling hall, combined with the venue lighting and background light spots, the wide-aperture atmosphere was intense, unifying the entire style. The convention experience was enjoyable; despite the high physical exertion, seeing these Convention photos made all the complicated preparations truly worthwhile.
