[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project Vintage Study Halloween Cosplay Photography

For this shoot, I cosplayed Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project, specifically choosing a wooden vintage study filled with old books and infusing it with a Halloween cosplay atmosphere. This was also my first time trying a look with such a large brimmed hat, which really tested my head balance and control. For styling, the wig was styled with large waves and small braids, paired with a black wide-brimmed witch hat and a purple bow. The outfit consisted of a white collared shirt layered under a dark blue starry pinafore dress with a white apron, featuring plenty of lace trim and rich layering. The lower half was paired with white tights and black Mary Jane shoes—a combination that easily accentuates leg shape. For makeup, the focus was on detailing the eye makeup, experimenting with light-colored contacts, and emphasizing facial depth and contouring. The lighting on set was meticulously arranged; to simulate afternoon sunlight, the photographer used multiple flashes with snoots to create interlaced light and shadow, casting dappled patterns across the wooden floor. The books in the scene were all genuine antique books, piled with vintage covers and clocks from the floorboards to the high shelves. To complement the Halloween vibe, a prop featuring a Taiji/Bagua pattern and dried flowers were also arranged nearby. The shooting process was actually quite physically demanding, especially a series of poses where I had to lie on the dusty wooden floor—balancing the raised angle of my legs to show off the white tights cosplay look while resting my chin on my hands and keeping my gaze focused. Holding and posing with a white cat also required extreme care to keep it from fidgeting. There were also several sets sitting on a bamboo basket and perched on stacks of books. The most exhausting part was striking spellcasting poses towards books floating in mid-air, which took numerous retakes to get right. Throughout the shoot, I also adjusted my shoulder height and facial angles according to the photographer's cues. Post-processing primarily preserved a warm vintage atmosphere, slightly boosting contrast to highlight the texture of the wood grain. Looking back at the shoot, I really love the poses lying on the floor propping up my chin and leaning back to hold the hat—they capture both the lively spirit of the Touhou Project character and the mysterious aura of Halloween.
