The scene built for this shoot is incredibly atmospheric. The red and white stained glass windows, pure white angel statues, heavy iron chains, and scattered skulls perfectly recreate that both sacred and somewhat taboo feeling of the Scarlet Devil Mansion basement. In Touhou Project, Flandre Scarlet has always been locked away in the basement, so this time I specially chose props like chains and a teddy bear. Combined with the contrast between light and shadow, I wanted to express her innocent yet dangerous nature. As for the outfit, the red and white dress features many layers of ruffles, paired with her iconic mop cap and red Mary Jane shoes, staying as true to the original design as possible in the details. The apple and teddy bear in my hands are small interactive props. Holding them made me feel like I had truly become that lonely yet mischievous little sister. During the shoot, I tried several different states—sometimes playfully biting the apple, sometimes staring blankly while holding the bear, and other times reaching out towards the camera. The photographer captured many natural moments. The overall tone of this set leans warm, but the shadows are pulled down quite deep, which perfectly fits the character's paradoxical feeling of longing for light while staying in the shadows. The happiest part of doing cosplay is being able to bring a 2D character into the 3D world through styling and scenes. Even if it's just for a fleeting moment, I feel a step closer to their world.
