Today, let's talk about this Phrolova cosplay photoshoot from Wuthering Waves. This character's visual design is inherently eye-catching, especially pairing mint-green hair with an outfit centered around a Red and black color scheme. For the wig, I selected a subtly lustrous mint-green shade, keeping elongated sideburns on the left while weaving the right side into a low-hanging braid, accented with red roses at the crown and braid tips. To prevent the shorter hair from looking flat, I added a touch of hair glitter. Beyond the reddish-brown colored contacts, the makeup's centerpiece was the black lace eyepatch over the right eye, an intricate detail that vastly heightened the character's mysterious presence.
The wardrobe features rich structural layering. The base layer is a red tube top, overlaid with sheer black gossamer long sleeves that finish with intricate red ruffled cuffs at the wrists. The black leather underbust corset around the waist serves as the core of the entire look, cinching the waistline with red criss-cross lacing, while gold studs and metallic buckles seamlessly blend Gothic style cosplay with subtle punk accents. The skirt is a multi-tiered red-and-black pannier puff skirt offering wonderful drape and swing while walking. On my feet, I wore black lace-up platform combat boots, which elongated leg lines while harmonizing effortlessly with the overall dark, moody vibe.
The studio set on the day of the shoot was arranged with great care: the backdrop featured colossal gear models and rustic brick walls, the floor was strewn with crimson rose petals, and a massive black birdcage stood on the left. Under warm amber rim lighting, the atmosphere on set was instantly elevated. To capture optimal frames, we explored numerous poses—such as gazing down in contemplation while holding a red rose, leaning against the birdcage, or holding the long black prop bow.
I must mention the final shot holding the skull prop; the prop had a matte texture, so when shooting, hand placement required careful angling to avoid obscuring my facial contours, while utilizing the ambient studio light to craft an eerie yet elegant mood. For the mirror shots, capturing the interplay between the subject and the reflection required constant fine-tuning of the mirror's tilt and camera angles to keep the framing clean of background clutter. The bow-drawing pose also required repeated attempts; because the skirt was voluminous, seated poses demanded meticulous arrangement of the hemlines to showcase the boots and leg lines without appearing cramped.
Reflecting on the shoot, it gave me a much deeper appreciation for Gothic style cosplay within Anime-style portrait photography. While the striking Red and black color scheme contrast is one aspect, what matters even more is the model's inner demeanor and how it dialogues with the props. I truly cherish this creative journey of balancing fractured fragility with ornate opulence. These photos lovingly document the fruits of our dedicated preparation.
