Bringing this Furina cosplay costume and handmade wig to life for Genshin Impact took immense dedication from early prep to the final shoot. The wig was crafted bit by bit over evenings for an entire week last year—starting from a basic long wig, gradually trimming, curling, styling, and processing the blue-and-white gradient at the crown and hair ends took a tremendous amount of trial and error. To ensure the character's signature airy volume and that iconic looped ahoge strand, I spent every night fine-tuning it with hair wax and setting spray. Wearing it for the first time made me quite nervous, fearing the handmade wig wouldn't look natural or might make my head look disproportionate. But once makeup was set, paired with blue colored contacts and the teardrop mole makeup at the corner of the eye, the overall silhouette locked into place instantly.
The garment details are crafted with solid precision. A deep blue coat layered over a white inner vest, with a dark cravat tied around the collar. The golden oversleeves, the blue sapphire gemstone and golden chains at the waist, and that black garter thigh ring adorned with tassels on the thigh were all striking focal points during the shoot. The white shorts paired with strappy details visually elongated the leg proportions. During shooting, I intentionally adjusted the coordination of high heels and white lace-trimmed socks, lending the overall look both the character's regal opulence and an extra touch of airy lightness.
The photoshoot took place that day in a studio with a solid blue backdrop for this Studio portrait. I discussed various poses with photographer 不吃香菜; because the background was a vast expanse of blue, when the lighting hit, the metallic accessories on the costume reflected light gorgeously, instantly bringing out the rich textures. For seated poses, we chose a wooden barstool; lifting one leg or crossing both legs worked wonderfully to display the details of the black thigh ring and heels. For standing poses, whether resting both hands on the hips or lightly tipping the hat brim with one hand, I kept my body extended to let the coat hems and the blue gradient hair strands drape with natural dynamic motion.
Looking back on that week of crafting the handmade wig every evening, sitting at my desk bit by bit after work was exhausting yet deeply fulfilling. To me, the most fascinating part of cosplay is turning two-dimensional designs into reality through one's own hands and styling. This shoot not only recorded the complete debut of this look, but also deepened my understanding of the character. Every time I adjusted my expressions and details before the mirror, I felt myself stepping closer to that theatrical persona belonging to the stage. This set of photos serves as a rewarding culmination of that period of crafting.
Presenting the overall look relies on the harmonious interplay of every component. From the texture and flow of the wig, to the lustrous sheen of accessories, down to expression control in front of the lens, each aspect requires patient fine-tuning. Being able to showcase the character's presence under blue light and shadows left me with many cherished shots, while accumulating invaluable experience in wig styling and prop coordination for Genshin Impact cosplay. In the future, I will continue investing effort into costume making and styling details, striving to bring even more beloved characters faithfully to life.
