Setting aside flashy words, let's talk about this shoot. The kitty setting of Kazusa in Blue Archive actually leaves a lot of room for movement.
Regarding the choice of styling, this time the focus is on a lazy and casual vibe. The loose black hoodie combined with a white pleated skirt with black trim, and a pair of color-blocked sneakers full of techwear elements—this everyday outfit, plus the cat ears and halo on the head, adds a layer of special approachability compared to simply wearing magical-girl-style outfits. To go with this daily-style attire, I specially picked a bright red lollipop as a hand-held prop. The vivid color of the candy stands out against the large blocks of black and white clothing, serving as a wonderful visual accent.
For the wig, I chose a layered black short hairstyle with slightly thicker bangs to frame the face while restoring the character design. The red cat ears are a great bonus detail; not only the outer shape, but the inner red folded design and the pink halo on top form an echo and contrast in terms of tone. The reason I decided to shoot when the flowers were in full bloom was that I caught my eye on the background effect of the cherry blossom outdoor scene in the photos. The actual shoot turned out to be much more vivid than a monochromatic studio session for cosplay photography.
The collaborating photographer for this shoot was @Muhu (霧亥). In terms of framing and composition, we experimented with different perspective attempts based on the local terrain. For example, the full-shot standing pose in Figure 3 was taken by the high staircase railing, using the metal lines of the railing and the scattered flower branches to form a structured yet rich background. The posture of slightly raising one leg and leaning against the railing happened to elongate the overall body shape. The combination of the black tights outfit and the white short skirt displayed highly layered linear beauty under natural lighting, making the composition both stretched out and far from monotonous.
For Figure 1, where I sat on the lawn, we chose to use a low angle combined with a large aperture to blur the tree trunks and blooming flowers behind, concentrating the visual focus on the character's posture and facial expression, conveying a casual yet slightly soft emotion. As for that high-angle overhead shot in Figure 2, it completely broke conventional portrait composition. The gray floor tiles covered with fallen petals and the figure squatting while hugging her knees formed a sense of solitude. The high-angle view perfectly showcases the details of the ground, which is an angle I personally like very much.
In terms of handling light, a cherry blossom outdoor scene can easily cause mottled leaf shadows on the face, so we mainly relied on diffused light during the shoot to seek even exposure on the face, which is why the skin tone looks incredibly translucent in these photos. Across the four final images, our emotional state leaned generally toward quiet and introverted, which fits this slightly academy-style and everyday look perfectly. Although it's doing cosplay, the feeling I want to present is not just 'this is a set of clothes,' but rather 'this person truly exists in this scene of cherry blossom rain.'
Finally, let me share a small tip from the shoot: when shooting a combination of tights and a pleated skirt, the biggest fear is a stiff standing posture. This time, with the help of the railing and some natural physical contact, the character in the frame had a center of gravity to lean on. The snapshot captured in that moment felt very alive, avoiding the look of a cardboard cutout. Another thing is using the red lollipop as a prop—don't just hold it up the entire time; putting it in your mouth or gently resting it against your chin can add a lot of playful life atmosphere. Overall, it was a very comfortable shoot. Though the cherry blossom season is short, the frozen images will always retain that lazy atmosphere uniquely belonging to spring.
