Today I took this fully decorated Columbina outfit outdoors for a natural light shoot; the feeling of sunlight refracting through glass onto my body was quite special.
The wig was one of the key focuses of this look. The black base combined with pink highlights along the cheeks took a lot of time to thin and trim to give the bangs a transparent, layered texture. That strand of pink at the tips used a vivid rose-pink hairpiece to create a striking contrast against the dark hair; pinching natural curves into the ends ensured it looked like a seamless gradient with built-in highlights under sunlight rather than out of place. The plush bunny ears on top had a bit of cotton stuffed inside and were shaped with wire, allowing them to stand as full ear shapes on top of the heavy wig instead of looking like flat, flimsy patches.
Purple contacts were the soul of the makeup, paired with warm pinkish-purple eyeshadow blended mainly at the outer corners to recreate the character's slightly ethereal yet maiden-like gaze. A glossy lip glaze was applied to make the lips look fresh and vibrant. White feather-like headpieces and plush bunny ear decorations were used for the hair accessories; the trickiest part with these fluffy accessories is fixing them securely in place.
The costume fabric featured a blue-and-white color scheme, with large areas of white tulle and delicate lace elements. The metal accessories embedded at the chest reflected a soft, warm light under natural illumination, brightening the overall visual texture. The white ribbon bows at the arms and wrists required manual pleat adjustments; otherwise, the dangling lines would look messy and ruin the crispness of the shot.
The light during the shoot was very strong—midday side-backlighting, which really tests camera skills. Fortunately, glass reflections acted as a soft diffuser. The glass door effectively served as a reflector panel, preventing harsh black shadows under the chin and neck. The cool-toned white dress took on a soft, warm white hue under sunlight, which is one of the reasons I love shooting with hard light. The cheek-resting pose was a natural reaction to seeing the beam of light fall on the back of my hand, and the half-exposed shoulder angle avoided harsh, overexposed edges from direct sunlight. I intentionally kept the watermark beside my hand uncropped, as this level of raw recording feels quite natural to me.
Regarding the wearing experience, the lace trim along the neckline is very delicate, and the drawstring tightening design makes the upper body fit snugly, though it meant constantly checking whether the shoulder tulle slipped during the shoot. Although the skirt hem wasn't captured in frame, there was plenty of fluffiness underneath. After a full day of outdoor shooting, I felt quite exhausted, but seeing the lighting, wig, and costume details all hit the mark made it completely worth it.
As a subtle addition, I wore a colorful wristband printed with light paw patterns, adding a cute pop of detail to the overall blue-and-white cool tone. In the world of Genshin Impact, character details are often tucked away in these tiny ornaments; faithfully recreating a character truly means attending to every detail. I didn't apply overly dramatic post-processing skin smoothing, opting instead to retain natural skin textures so the soft light effect authentically harmonized with the natural light atmosphere. Capturing hair strands swaying in the outdoor breeze brought out the best spontaneous chemistry between model and environment.
