When shooting this Columbina cosplay, I poured a tremendous amount of energy into the preparatory phase to recreate the mysterious and ethereal traits of the Genshin Impact character. First was the handling of the wig. The black hair paired with striking magenta highlights required repetitive trimming of the bangs and ends to maintain natural texture without looking stiff, followed by flat-ironing to build up fluffiness, ultimately achieving the hair-flow texture seen in the pictures. Choosing purple contact lenses was equally crucial; once worn, they instantly deepen the gaze. Combined with meticulous eye makeup, just a slight smile captures that gentle yet worldly-detached demeanor of the maiden.
Let's talk about this exquisite cosplay costume; its tailoring and materials are exceptionally sophisticated. The main body utilizes lightweight chiffon and organza, presenting a dreamy gradient intertwined with blue and white. The off-shoulder design precisely exposes the collarbone lines, preventing the overall silhouette from appearing bulky due to heaviness. The golden floral ornament and teardrop-shaped pendant on the chest, though small, greatly elevate the grandeur of the entire ensemble. What I love most is the leg strapping element. The white crisscross straps paired with high-heeled sandals visually elongate leg proportions while imparting a touch of playfulness and sensuality to the otherwise ethereal styling, proving that every single detail serves the character.
Set design was another vital component of this shoot. To echo the theme of "returning to the moon that belongs to me," we specially constructed a blue-toned physical studio set. A massive glowing moon lamp served as the primary light source, casting cool radiance over the figure, coordinated with white Roman columns, potted plants in ancient Greek style, and blue faux flower clusters beneath our feet to construct a lost fairyland atmosphere. The floor was intentionally chosen with a reflective material, allowing top and side lighting to generate a transparent water-surface reflection effect. Standing in the scene wearing this outfit, coordinated with the photographer's mastery of light and shadow, that light and free state naturally flowed outward.
In terms of action and posture, I also want to share a few small tips. In the original lore, Columbina always appears relaxed, leisurely, and unhurried. Therefore, in front of the lens, I didn't need to force complex poses; instead, leveraging relaxed limbs—such as casual sitting postures or gently lifting an arm to watch the play of light and shadow on my palm—captured that effortless aura much better. This photo set also incorporated flowing ribbons and feather elements, utilizing a gentle fan breeze to enhance dynamic motion within the frame.
Doing Casual cosplay is also a process of continuously breaking through one's own aesthetics. Every release—from custom-made costumes and wig styling to location scouting and pose design—demands enormous effort, but seeing oneself in the final edits merging into that blue world enveloped by moonlight makes all the hardship truly worthwhile. I hope to use this pure passion to bring everyone a slightly different visual experience.
