[Columbina Cosplay] Reflection in the Mirror: The Snezhnayan Puppet Show

Using the optical illusion of mirror reflections to complement the character's lore was the central vision behind this photoshoot. To evoke that mysterious, ethereal aura, extensive preparation went into the makeup, styling, and costume details.

Inside the mirror is a look featuring silver hair and blue eyes, paired with a dark ruffled garment—the gaze needed to balance softness with an elusive, enigmatic edge. Outside the mirror sits her iconic white wing headpiece paired with a blue-and-white gossamer gown, emphasizing a fragile ethereality as if she could vanish at any second. Linking both sides through the mirror created a magical interplay, an idea mutually agreed upon with my photographer during early brainstorming.

Before the shoot began, styling the wig and fine-tuning the fit of the garments took considerable time, particularly ensuring the snug placement of the back metal buckles and arranging the delicate drape of the layered skirt. The warm orange glow of the candelabras contrasted sharply with the cool reflections bouncing off the glass, lending remarkable atmosphere and texture to the entire scene.

The trickiest part during the session was mastering the angle of the mirror interaction. I had to balance the facial expression reflected in the glass while simultaneously minding the silhouette of my back outside it; any slight tilt would disrupt the delicate interplay between reality and illusion. I adjusted my posture, stance, and hand gestures repeatedly over several hours. Though physically exhausting, seeing the raw captures come together made every moment worthwhile.

Through this shoot, I gained a deeper appreciation for the character's subtle nuance—feeling like a controlled Puppet yet poised to reveal an entirely different facet at any moment. Conveying this dual nature through visual storytelling marked significant artistic growth for me.
