This theme photoshoot was prepared for Gongsun Li's Jade Rabbit Princess. I had chosen this skin long ago because its orange-toned exotic style deeply attracted me. From makeup testing and costume sourcing to finally entering the studio shoot, the entire preparation period took about two weeks. What amazed me most upon receiving the costume were the loose orange harem bloomers and the bright belt at the waist, which, combined with the semi-sheer yellow robe, featured a cut exceptionally well-suited for showcasing the character's agile grace. However, the most complex element remained the headdress: the dramatic bunny ears and blooming head flowers shifted the overall visual focal point upward, requiring us to test the concealed snap-button structure three times to ensure they wouldn't collapse during the shoot.
When setting up the studio shoot scene, we specifically picked carpets and woven textiles with ethnic motifs, paired with warm yellow sheer tulle drapery hanging from above to gracefully divide the frame's space. The orange-red artificial maple tree on set, along with the brass-textured samovar nearby and the magic lamp atop the low table, served as pivotal keys to the ambiance. We also placed a full-moon shape deep in the background; light filtering through the sheer fabric refracted a dreamy, hazy halo. Lighting setup favored warm side-backlighting, which made the drapery edges glow and saturated the rich autumn colors of the maple leaves to their fullest.
For hair and makeup, the red bindi dot on my forehead was drawn slightly larger so it wouldn't wash out on camera. The eyeshadow combined terracotta and orange tones, echoing the primary palette of the garments. Because this is a barefoot design, I paid special attention to foot grooming before the shoot; fortunately, the studio was laid with soft fur rugs and cushions, making cross-legged sitting and side-reclining poses comfortable. The side-braided plait is a detail I personally adore—we wove golden metallic flowers and brick-red accents throughout the braid so the hair wouldn't appear dull even in softer lighting.
During the shoot, I explored various poses. For example, leaning against the low table while gently resting a hand on the magic lamp, gazing upward or diagonally away rather than directly at the camera—that relaxed composure fit the ambiance of this outfit wonderfully. Another classic pose was sitting cross-legged with open arms; though it looks expansive, it truly tests back and waist posture, balancing a languid vibe with visual tension. The wide harem pants formed beautiful folds while seated, creating a striking contrast with bare skin.
Post-processing retouching did not drastically alter the original color grading; it primarily reorganized light and shadow. Because heavy warm lighting on set could easily lean overly yellowish, highlights were subtly balanced toward cooler tones. The added glowing golden butterfly effects infused the frame with a magical sense of breathing room, adding vibrant life to the otherwise static studio shoot scene. Furthermore, placing these butterflies before the sheer drapery gracefully filled emptier areas, making the overall composition richer and more balanced.
This was a truly distinct photoshoot experience, where the exotic style of Gongsun Li's Jade Rabbit Princess harmonized seamlessly with the core spirit of Honor of Kings. Slipping into this attire naturally channels the grace of a princess—keeping movements measured so as not to disrupt the fluid drape of the fabric. The afternoon was tightly scheduled, but every gesture and lighting interplay was captured beautifully. Seeing the final results feels like a wonderful reward for all the hard work during preparation.
