[Satori Komeiji & Koishi Komeiji Cosplay] Inseparable Sisters from Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism

Satori Komeiji and Koishi Komeiji, the sisters from Touhou Chireiden ~ Subterranean Animism—we've finally organized this set of photos from our anime convention duo photoshoot. These two costumes were actually quite physically demanding at the convention, because besides the regular dress cuts, we also had to deal with the extra mechanical tubing decorations, which added a bit of weight.

This time I cosplayed Koishi Komeiji, using a pale pinkish-white wig specifically styled into fluffy light curls, with a small yellow hair ring and a black headband on top as the finishing touches. The top is a light blue shirt with a ruffled collar, featuring a striking red-eyed mechanical ornament on the chest. Paired with long, slender orange and red tubing, securing them wrapped around the outfit was quite difficult, as they easily tangled or bent out of shape. The bottom is a light pink multi-layered lace skirt decorated with 3D rose flowers. To highlight the character's youthful girlish vibe, I paired it with white lace socks and pink Mary Jane shoes with bows. Although this dress style is adorable, the skirt's layers require constant organizing, or else they easily collapse while walking around.

My partner cosplayed Satori Komeiji, creating a very striking visual contrast of black, white, yellow, and green. Her look features short light blue-green curly hair and a black wide-brimmed bowler hat accented with a yellow bow on the side. Her outfit consists of a bright yellow ruffled-collar blouse paired with a dark green layered skirt edged with black lace. Black pantyhose and black shoes with purple details give the lower body a grounded presence, forming a great setup for duo pantyhose cosplay. Furthermore, her cable props feature blue-purple tones, and the blue sphere prop on her chest caught reflections really well during shooting, making it easy to illuminate.

When shooting this set, we spent quite a bit of time just arranging the tubing props behind us. Because these pipes aren't rigid but rather elastic rubber hoses, we needed to secure them in specific positions—neither too tight to restrict movement nor too loose to look cumbersome. Especially in the first picture where I leaned on her back, the pressure from the cables and shoulders required angle adjustments to prevent the tubing from sticking up and poking us in the face.

The convention venue was quite crowded that day, so we specifically chose a cement ground area near the outer edge of the hall for framing. This gray-toned architectural backdrop nicely set off the high-saturation yellow, pink, and blue of our costumes. The photographer's DSLR candid shots were very timely; the single-leg jumping actions we performed in Photos 2 and 3 required a lot of balance. To show the intimate atmosphere between the characters, we specially designed poses holding hands or leaning against each other, trying our best to capture that subtle yet tight sisterly bond of the fan-dubbed "taboo duo."

Of course, many fellow fans recognized us as they walked by, and some even came over to ask how the cable props were attached to the clothing. Because combining steampunk elements with western-style dresses easily yields results in a photo studio, but under natural light or convention hall lighting, the clothing's color layers can easily clash. Therefore, when taking photos, we tried to find outdoor areas with side-backlighting or diffuse reflection, avoiding harsh overhead sunlight, so the hair luster of our wigs and the fabric textures of our outfits could show through much better.

Every time I cosplay characters with such complex designs, I have to wake up several hours early to style wigs and fix various small parts onto the outfits. Although exhausting, the moment we suit up and pose on the ground, we truly enjoy that sense of immersion. For me, cosplaying duo characters with special emotional bonds centers on the interaction in gaze and body language—it's not just standing on a flat surface showing off outfits, but making people feel there is a story and dialogue between them. Thus, the three selected final photos capture both the docile sweetness of leaning on each other and the lively energy of dancing with open arms, which pretty much reflects the daily essence of this pair in the 2D world.
