[Komeiji Satori cosplay] Touhou Project: Subterranean Animism's Satori with Vintage Petals

The core challenge of this Komeiji Satori cosplay shoot was actually prop storage and securing the tubes during movements. The giant eyeball prop on the chest, along with the red soft tubing extending from it, needed to balance both visual depth and dynamic stability during shooting. To prevent the tubing from sagging randomly and ruining the silhouette, I used invisible fishing line inside for multi-point tension, ensuring it maintained that entwined look whether sitting or looking down, rather than appearing messy.

For the outfit, I selected a black lace dress with layered detailing. The neck and cuffs feature translucent lace stitching, which avoids the heaviness of solid black while creating a crisp color contrast with the short pink hair. The black floral wreath and yellow accessories on the headpiece were custom-made based on references from the original work; when setting up the lighting, care was taken to give the pink wig a natural sheen so it wouldn't look flat. For makeup, the weight of the eyeshadow was reduced, focusing instead on matching the colored contact lenses with the eyeliner to make the expression better fit the character's calm, detached aura.

The setting featured a dark-patterned carpet and a gold-trimmed European sofa, paired with scattered red petals to give the composition a strong focal point. The sitting pose in the first photo took three or four adjustments on my own to find the right angle—showing leg extension while keeping the core prop centered, with hands naturally holding the base of the eyeball prop. Top-side lighting was used to create dimensional shadows while keeping the face soft to avoid harsh highlight reflections. The second photo's head-down expression leans more toward conveying the character's inner contemplation, but I ultimately chose the first image for the cover because the character is centered, the framing is complete, and there are no extra watermarks or layout distractions, making it ideal as a social media cover image.

Throughout the shoot, there were many details to manage, such as petal density and the curve of the tubing; every shutter press required micro-adjustments to the prop angles. Fortunately, the overall color tone turned out consistent, with the red, black, and pink palette exuding a vintage feel in the dark environment. The shoes and white socks of this look can be tricky for standing poses, but sitting made it much easier to stay stable. The photo set underwent minimal post-processing, preserving the ambient light and natural fabric textures.
