This swimsuit styling of Kuromi Serika from Blue Archive is mainly meant to record some studio behind-the-scenes photos while catching the summer vibe. To create this miniature seaside feel, we specially set up a basic scene in the studio, fixing a vacation vibe with a blue background board and faux palm trees, and then spread a shallow layer of water on the floor, relying on the puddle to create a mirror reflection effect.
Regarding hair and makeup details, the dark blue short hair paired with cat ears and her iconic pink halo headpiece has high recognizability. The outfit selected was a black off-the-shoulder style swimsuit with a halter neck strap, giving an overall refreshing feel without losing the character's original temperament. This style is relatively comfortable to shoot in a daily studio setting, requiring few complex movements, mostly relying on the scene and props to enrich the visual language.
During the shoot, although the shallow layer of water on the ground enhanced the depth of the frame, it also brought some small troubles. Walking barefoot in the water frequently left footprints, which had to be cleaned with a mop from time to time. To capture the full reflection on the water surface into the lens, the camera position often needed to be set very low, and keeping the figure's position within the frame became quite critical at these times. The blue-and-white striped lifebuoy, wooden coffee table, and watermelons on the ground in the scene were all arranged to enhance the holiday atmosphere. Holding the lifebuoy in hand in the first photo not only balanced the visual center of gravity of the frame but also made the movement look more natural.
In terms of the lighting setup, because it simulates a waterside environment, the highlights were shot very strong, making the skin appear highly textured after receiving light. However, when the water reflection was too bright, it easily caused partial overexposure, so we had to frequently fine-tune the reflector's position during the shoot to avoid highlight clipping. Posing while sitting on the beach chair also required some skill; because the wooden folding chair's stability is slightly poor, it easily wobbles if the movements are too large, so many seemingly casual postures actually required tightening the core to maintain balance.
This set of behind-the-scenes photos focused on capturing some relaxed, lazy moments. Compared to a meticulously polished final photoshoot if there is one later, behind-the-scenes work values the natural flow of emotion at that exact moment much more. The negative space in the placement of props gives the frame a certain breathing room, and the posture of the legs and feet also appears more elongated due to the water reflection. The overall theme follows a casual and comfortable route; although there is no complex post-processing, the light and shadow themselves already clearly deliver the brightness and coolness of summer.
The preparation and shooting process of the entire project was relatively pleasant; although moving these wet props during setup and teardown took a lot of time, recreating the character in an artificial scene is inherently the joy of swimsuit cosplay. If there is time later to further optimize the details and turn it into a full set, it should yield another entirely different feeling for this Summer Film.
