I personally love the overall atmosphere of this Blue Archive Shimoe Koharu cosplay from the Firefly ACG Expo. As Cosplay convention photos, this set did not overly rely on heavy post-processing or complicated set designs, but rather on candid snapshots taken under the natural ambient lighting of the exhibition hall, capturing the character's casual everyday vibe mixed with a hint of tsundere charm.
When planning this shoot, my first considerations were costume accuracy and ease of movement. Shimoe Koharu's design is intriguing: on one hand, it features sacred elements representing her identity, such as the floating pink halo overhead, black feather accessories on both sides, and that pair of small wings on her back; on the other hand, her outfit is distinctly casual and street-styled—an oversized black off-the-shoulder jacket paired with a deep wine-red pleated skirt, white slouch socks, and chunky black platform loafers. This combination gives the Anime girl an undeniable gap-moe charm.
During the fitting, I adjusted the way the jacket was worn so it draped right along the edge of the shoulders, revealing the white inner straps and collarbone lines without looking sloppy while preserving that languid streetwear vibe. The pink ties at the neckline and the pink patchwork on the cuffs serve as lovely highlights, accenting the black-and-white base palette to enrich the styling details. The pastel pink wig has a soft tone, which, paired with red contact lenses, avoids forced dramatic visual impact and instead harmonizes with her cool yet soft, adorable facial features.
The crowd at the Firefly ACG Expo was massive on the day of the shoot, making it tough to find clean backdrops without passerby distractions. Fortunately, the high ceilings and gray pillars inside the venue were ideal for background blur; using a wide-aperture lens with proper focal length smoothly softened the crowd in the background, making the subject stand out sharply. The photographer captured candid shots spontaneously without rigid studio framing. There is a close-up kneeling on one knee with a slightly tilted head and an unfocused gaze, conveying her slightly dazed, adorable contemplation. Another photo features a standing pose touching an index finger to my cheek—a classic convention pose that showcases facial expressions and the upper-body outfit while accentuating the leg lines and white socks. The final close-up lightly tugging at the collar leans more into emotional nuance, highlighting the shoulder neckline and delicate black choker around the neck.
I feel the greatest charm of Cosplay convention photos lies in their spontaneity—you don't have to force textbook poses for the camera. Instead, walking through the convention halls, pausing, brushing your hair, or adjusting a hemline often results in the most vivid freeze-frames. Because the large black jacket absorbed plenty of heat, walking and shooting for around two hours left us sweating, but the resulting colors and textures were completely worth it. In particular, the pink halo paired with black wings against the gray-and-white convention lighting created a striking visual tension.
