[Asuma Toki Cosplay] Blue Archive: The Most High-Energy Moment Cheering for Sensei

For this shoot, we chose Asuma Toki's Cheerleader cosplay look from Blue Archive. Based on her character traits combining crispness and strength, we shot in a solid-color indoor studio. Without complex set decorations, creating her signature energetic vibe relied heavily on body language, costume details, and the dynamic movement of props.

For the wig, I asked the stylist to tweak the side bangs so they would flutter softly in layers in the wind while preserving the innocent, earnest feel of straight bangs. Though the hair clip is a simple blue bar, its accenting role is crucial to the character's image. For makeup, I went with a clean Japanese-style route—light base, distinctly defined lashes, and a glossy nude-pink lip product to convey a healthy, vibrant state. Customizing the top was also interesting: the fabric needed breathability while keeping the blue-and-white grid aligned, and the white section at the neckline was actually a modified bowtie design.

The skirt waistband sits right above the hips, elongating body proportions significantly. Radial pleats extending from waist to hem lie flat when still, but once in a one-legged pose, the skirt naturally creates rich shadows and 3D depth. To avoid a monotonic look on the lower body, I paired it with white mid-calf socks and cushioned athletic sneakers, striving for a sweet balance between 2D softness and athletic realism.

The pompoms in hand were made from bright yellow metallic paper with custom surface texturing to enhance reflective highlights. For her floating halo, we built a tiny transparent bracket and paired it with overhead lighting during shooting so it glowed naturally. Meanwhile, the massive blue-and-white ribbon spanned nearly three meters, fluttering dramatically at the slightest breeze. After experimenting with forward throws and side tosses aligned with shutter speeds, we locked in the current angle enveloping the body.

Holding the one-legged pose required quite a bit of practicing to stabilize my center of gravity. The back knee bent upward behind me with toes pointed straight, while my upper torso pressed downward to the left along the ribbon's direction as my arm raised the pompom. This angle stretched the upper body lines while showcasing long, toned leg contours. To freeze this moment, I held my breath, grounding my weight on my left leg while allowing my right leg and lower back to form a graceful tension.

The photographer used a fast shutter speed to freeze the ribbon in motion, combined with high-powered studio softboxes to create a soft yet bright high-key Anime-style photography aesthetic. We slightly lowered the color temperature to make blue tones crisp and translucent while preserving warm skin tones so the figure popped out cleanly.

As a Blue Archive player myself, I feel Toki's most touching trait is her reserved yet firm personality. Though a cheerleader role is inherently bright, I didn't want to play it overly loud; rather, I aimed to convey a gentle sense of quiet encouragement: "I'll be watching over you as you move forward." Thus, in my gaze, I focused on maintaining intense concentration toward the lens.

This cosplay was a true test of physical expression. Without heavy armor or complex props, light and simple attire demands even greater authenticity in demeanor. From hair to footwear, I strove to stay faithful to the original character design. Though the process was demanding, capturing a satisfying picture made it all worthwhile. That's truly where the joy of studio photography lies!
