In the world of Zenless Zone Zero, dark tones and mechanical vibes are always accompanied by a unique aesthetic, and this cosplay based on Ramiel Remielle is a concrete manifestation of that aesthetic in reality.
No need for excessive pleasantries; let's focus directly on the core of this shoot—the freezing of time as feathers fall. To capture this split-second, we specifically chose a windless outdoor location, tossing pre-trimmed black feathers multiple times alongside high shutter speeds and side-backlighting, ultimately freezing the frame where wings intersect in light and shadow. We didn't seek artificial grandeur, only hoping to restore that quiet, mysterious atmosphere belonging to the character in Zenless Zone Zero.
In terms of costume and prop preparation, a great deal of effort was poured in. This pair of black Feathered wings features a custom metal skeleton and feather-overlay structure, where layer upon layer of feather textures were manually adjusted to ensure 3D depth even in side-profile shots. Although wearing them was a genuine test of shoulder endurance, adapting to the weight distribution took a long time to achieve a perfect effect. The main dark-colored miniskirt paired with a corset design, with its intentionally cinched waistline and radial silver zipper decorations, nicely highlighted the character's combat aura. The star-shaped metal accessory and white stand collar at the neckline serve as both an echo and a touch to break up monotony. The semi-transparent lantern sleeves exhibit a translucent texture under light and shadow, which, as my arms raise, gives the frame less rigidity and more fluid grace.
As for details, the wig selected was a high-brightness pink that proved exceptionally eye-catching under outdoor natural light. During styling, we avoided excessive hairspray to maintain the hair's lightweight feel, allowing it to fan out when the wind blew. The red bow atop the head and the crisscross hair accessories were essential accents for recreating the character setting. For makeup, matching the quiet, eyes-closed pose during shooting, I chose translucent eyeshadow and a natural lip shade to highlight skin texture, allowing the character to blend seamlessly into the light and shadow.
The shoot took place outside a cold-gray urban building. The metallic drainage grates on the ground and translucent glass windows formed a backdrop filled with mechanical aesthetics. As I stood in the frame, the black thigh-high stockings paired with platform pumps visually extended my leg proportions in this Black tights outfit. The moment feathers fell, intertwined with urban lingering shadows, seamlessly reinforced the atmosphere of urban wasteland coexisting with hope that Zenless Zone Zero conveys.
To capture these close-ups and full-body shots, the photographer and I spent significant time fine-tuning light and shadow. We needed to balance lighting ratios to keep facial shadows soft while brightening the black feathers of the wings so they didn't become crushed blacks. Furthermore, the trajectory and position of falling feathers required repeated prediction and testing. On set, I repeatedly adjusted reflector angles to ensure facial contours remained crisp and natural in backlit conditions without leaving the deep black costume looking flat.
As for the material choice for the thigh-high stockings in this Black tights outfit, I specifically picked a matte fabric with a gentle compression that didn't reflect light, preventing harsh glare under strong sunlight while ensuring smooth leg lines that kept the entire outfit's top-to-bottom proportions balanced. The shoes chosen were platform pumps that fit the overall Gothic style while making it easy to move around on outdoor steps and pavement to adjust standing positions.
Every jump and upward head tilt during the shoot needed to sync with the falling feathers; though tedious, seeing the moment in the final photo where feathers froze mid-air made everything worthwhile. This outfit wasn't merely putting on clothing, but transforming the character's static design into dynamic emotion. Enveloped by black Feathered wings, pink hair tips swaying, set off by a cool-toned background, the time-stop moment reflected the unique aura of Ramiel Remielle in Zenless Zone Zero.
From costume material selection to final post-processing color grading, everything revolved around one core principle: preserving raw picture quality as much as possible without stacking heavy filters, letting light, shadow, and props speak for themselves. Before and after the shoot, polishing physique and demeanors was also inextricably linked to daily exercise and relaxation.
All in all, for the expression of this look, I made many attempts in front of the lens. I hope this photo set conveys the quietness and strength unique to this character, along with that frozen tension at the split second when feathers drift down.
