The core objective of today's photo series was faithfully capturing Rebecca's chaotic unhinged energy and untamed swagger on the fringes of Night City in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. From initial pre-production to the finished frames, there are numerous nuances I'm excited to share.
The wig was a bright cyan-teal twin-tail style. To simulate a wind-blown, disheveled flair, we directed a fan straight at me during the shoot; strands constantly clung across my face, yet that accidental chaos enriched the raw, messy aesthetic. Cosmetically, the base foundation was kept ultra-pale, focusing heavily on the eyes with crimson contact lenses and black stitch-like liner markings drawn across the orbital contours, lightly touched up in post to evoke authentic 2D anime textures. Pink adhesive tape strips were applied across my neck and thighs, paying homage to the character's signature accents.
Wardrobe-wise, I wore a glossy black jacket featuring fluorescent green collar rings and reflective piping, catching brilliant reflections under nocturnal neon signs. The prop blasters and baton were custom-prepped for this shoot; carrying considerable weight, holding steady poses seriously tested arm endurance. To align with the Cyberpunk 2077 world-building, we scouted night streets packed with vibrant neon signage, letting pink, purple, and blue ambient glows wash over the frame for immediate immersion.
Behind the lens, the photographer favored low-angle compositions, incorporating frequent crouching and half-kneeling stances to elongate leg lines and give frames an aggressive edge. Hair-tossing sequences required countless takes to balance facial expression control with prop positioning. We also experimented with thrusting the prop blaster right up against the camera lens to create dramatic wide-angle perspective distortion, maxing out visual tension.
In post-production, adjustments prioritized environmental color grading and contrast enhancement to sharpen the collision between warm and cool tones. The red-eye experiment turned out to be a personal favorite, looking razor-sharp against the cool-toned palette. Overall, this Rebecca cosplay was an incredible creative endeavor, striving at every step from styling to shooting to embody Rebecca of Night City. Prop placement, fabric creasing, and lighting vectors were all calibrated to steep the imagery in narrative depth. Though physically grueling, conveying the character's bold soul through the lens is the greatest reward.
