[Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay] Photoshoot Insights on Dual Styles: Drunken Jalter and Oiran in Fate/Grand Order

The preparation cycle for these two looks took considerably longer than usual. The purple satin dress was deliberately shot in a bar setting, where the wooden bar counter and warm yellow pendant lights perfectly complemented the ambiance of the Drunken Jalter concept. Because satin fabric reflects light easily, we had to coordinate closely with the lighting angles during shooting; otherwise, the smooth, flowing texture of the fabric would be lost. The matching over-the-knee purple pantyhose nicely flattered the leg lines visually. To convey that relaxed, languid demeanor, the angle of leg placement while leaning against the counter was tested repeatedly. The red liquor served as an excellent visual prop, giving my gaze a natural focal point. For makeup, the focus was placed on red eyeshadow and dark lipstick, which, combined with the silver-white wig and black horn headpiece, enhanced the overall mystique and sharpness. The long gloves on my arms were somewhat cumbersome to put on and take off, but they shaped the arm lines nicely.

In contrast to the first set, the Oiran look offered a completely different experience. The deep navy fabric featured heavy gold embroidery with a vibrant red inner lining—a color palette that is inherently rich in narrative depth. The shoot took place in a cool-toned studio with a highly reflective floor. Standing barefoot on it, I had to overcome the chilly surface. While lying on the floor to pose, showcasing the curves of the kimono hem and legs relied heavily on core and leg strength for support. The red oil-paper umbrella fanning out behind me added rich compositional depth to the frame.

Shooting two consecutive themes demanded high stamina and focus. Strictly controlling facial expressions while staying mindful of subtle differences in how warm versus cool light interacted with my skin felt like constantly toggling between different dimensions of the character. Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) inherently possesses a strong sense of duality in Fate/Grand Order; embodying her intoxicated demeanor in purple pantyhose alongside her commanding Oiran persona provided the perfect opportunity to showcase her allure from varied angles. We also worked extensively with the photographer to iron out details—such as framing out cluttered bar backdrops and avoiding unwanted reflections on the glossy floor—all of which require accumulated experience. Many seemingly casual poses actually demanded maintaining balance from unexpected angles. The long wig also required meticulous combing to remain neat throughout. Seeing the final results made all the preliminary effort worthwhile, deepening my understanding of how to portray a character with precision through body language and eye expression.
