Prior to shooting this Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay, I dedicated substantial time to perfecting the positioning of the eyepatch and styling the wig's texture, aiming to faithfully capture the character's heavy yet restrained mood on camera. Given that her character design is deeply tied to dark elements and blazing flames, photographer Huahuo and I instantly aligned on using red and black dual-tone lighting to accentuate the scene. Posing design was critical during the shoot; stretching the arm forward to the right was not a casual posture, but carefully orchestrated to harmonize with the burning flame visual effects in the background, aiming to convey a palpable tension of commanding hatred. The outfit featured a cropped sailor suit paired with a red tie, with the white stripe accents cleanly detailed to add premium texture on camera. During shooting, I avoided staring directly into the lens, instead tilting my head slightly to craft an enigmatic presence through the shadows cast across my profile and the eyepatch. I'm deeply grateful for the photographer's mastery over color grading in VFX post-production, seamlessly blending the crimson splash effects with the black background to give the entire set a rich narrative quality. To achieve better visual impact under studio lighting, we tested various standing angles to keep the subject locked in the core of the frame. This set focuses primarily on channeling the character's unique atmosphere, expressing my interpretation of Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) through meticulous makeup and styling. The vignette darkening in post-processing effectively muted the surroundings, turning the outstretched arm into the visual centerpiece, which was my favorite compositional element. Holding identical poses for extended periods to ensure lighting fell flawlessly across my arm and face was physically demanding, but seeing the final contrast made every bit of perseverance worthwhile. I hope everyone can feel the suppressed yet wild dark aesthetic conveyed through this anime cosplay work—my heartfelt tribute to this beloved character.
