When shooting this Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) JK uniform set, the trickiest part to manage was securing the headpiece. The black horn mask is quite rigid with sharp edges, requiring invisible tape to anchor it firmly into the wig cap so it wouldn't shift or reveal seams when turning or looking down.
For the hair, I chose an airy, textured short white wig with flared tips to give crisp definition on camera. The striking green contacts, combined with a pale base and high-saturation bold red lipstick, formed the core of this sharp, cold, and alluring makeup contrast.
The outfit is a black sailor JK uniform where the white-bordered collar and front red bow tie act as the primary visual focus. The bow tie needed to be tied tightly to avoid looking loose. The costume has a tailored, form-fitting cut, requiring a straight spine and a slight torso turn to flatter the body curves.
Props—including the Spider Lily, skull, and the dragon fruit in the final shot—were carefully curated. The Spider Lily naturally evokes themes of death and rebirth, while the skull reinforces the Dark Gothic aesthetic, creating a powerful visual clash against the innocent JK uniform. The dragon fruit was a spontaneous prop used with a wide aperture in the foreground, breaking the serious mood of the previous shots with a playful, fourth-wall-breaking touch.
A seamless white backdrop was used for this studio shoot. Despite the minimalist setting, the black-red-white color scheme focused all visual attention directly on the character. The lighting leaned toward cool tones, primarily enhancing skin translucency and dimensional shadows.
Poses were guided largely by the photographer: glancing back over the shoulder showcased the collar design; brushing the Spider Lily against the cheek heightened eye contact; and cradling the skull required careful grip control to make holding the heavy prop look completely effortless and cool. Long, pointed white press-on nails were added to elevate hand close-ups, capturing crisp details.
Overall, this styling preserves Jeanne Alter's signature dark aura while integrating everyday schoolgirl elements. The black sailor uniform paired with white hair, red lips, and Gothic props makes this one of my most satisfying recent indoor studio shoots.
