This photo set primarily revolves around Da Qiao from Honor of Kings, aiming to capture that texture of Da Qiao which is both gentle and tinged with a royal sister aura. In terms of costume, this red dress has numerous details: the golden piping on the chest, that huge sapphire, and the scale-like subtle patterns make the texture exceptionally brilliant. To enhance the ethereal feel, a large amount of semi-transparent orange-pink sheer fabric is spliced around the outer layer of the skirt, requiring constant adjustment of the sheer fabric's flow during the shoot. Regarding props, the long-handled staff and that floating transparent lantern (crafted with detailed goldfish and water ripples inside) are of paramount importance.
In makeup, the red-brown braided hair paired with a golden tiara, along with light blue circle lenses for the eye makeup, adds a clear 2D anime-translucent feel. During the shoot, the photographer had me experiment with various suspended and standing postures. The first suspended photo of sitting mid-air turned out extraordinarily photogenic; the skirt hem and sheer fabric flow downward like a waterfall, requiring one to imagine truly floating, while the crossed-leg posture heavily tested core strength. The standing shots primarily showcased the slender leg lines, paired with transparent high-heeled crystal shoes, with the gold-and-blue accessories on the ankle serving as a highlight. When holding the staff, one must pay attention to wrist exertion; coordinated with outward extending movements, it better displays the staff's lines. Da Qiao's royal sister persona is actually quite tricky to nail—not too fierce, yet carrying that aloofness and composure in her gaze. To convey that weightless and fairy-like feeling, we tried many different wind directions and dynamic effects, and the post-processing was meticulously refined to preserve that gaming character modeling feel. The overall light and shadow tone utilized high-key white background lighting to make the color contrast between the subject and the red dress more intense. Every photo in this set features a different direction of the sheer fabric, with the dynamic feel entirely captured through snap-shooting. Achieving this current effect makes all the preliminary preparations feel completely worthwhile.
Let's talk specifically about the presentation of props and costumes. Both the top and bottom ends of the staff are spiral golden metal, crafted with remarkably realistic textures, though holding it for long periods does make the wrists slightly sore; maintaining arm stability during the shoot is necessary to keep the lines looking graceful. The floating transparent spherical lantern is an intricate piece of work, boasting rich details of golden koi fish and water ripple textures inside; we specially added reflector boards during lighting to ensure the sphere radiates that aquamarine luster. The metal accessories on the costume, such as shoulder armor, waist ornaments, and necklaces, while gorgeous, tend to shift position during shooting and require frequent tidying to guarantee refinement in the frame.
Regarding the expression of actions and emotions, this time we intentionally reinforced the royal sister setting. The first posture of suspended upright sitting required wire-rigging paired with post-processing; the body had to remain tense and leg lines stretched straight to appear slender. The crossed legs were not just for aesthetics, but also to match the composed posture from the original setting. For the two standing poses, the left arm extended outward while the right hand held the staff diagonally, with the body slightly tilted, allowing the entire body proportions to stretch to their best while letting the skirt's sheer fabric drape naturally and encircle the feet. The effect of transparent high-heeled sandals paired with nude Stockings made the legs appear smoother and flawless, fitting the 2D aesthetic.
The entire shooting process placed immense emphasis on light and shadow control, because the red color against a pure white background needed to be sufficiently vivid and eye-catching, while the luster of the gold ornaments and the transparency of the sheer fabric also relied on lighting to stand out. The photographer utilized top lighting combined with rim-backlighting, giving the subject's edges a slight glowing sensation. We repeatedly adjusted the tossing angle and floating direction of the sheer fabric precisely to showcase the dynamic feel of wind within static photos. This photo set perfectly blends 2D refinement with the royal sister's aloofness, making it an immensely satisfying shooting experience.
