This Marisa shoot was truly a fresh visual exploration for me. The overarching concept was situated within a classroom steeped in vintage academic ambiance, constructed entirely before a pure white studio backdrop. On set, we prepared an authentic vintage student desk, a wooden chair, and stacks of substantial antique tomes—one could even flip through foreign literary classics like Jane Eyre. The ensemble I wore is an elaborately crafted black-and-white gothic piece featuring intricate layers of lace ruffles. Of particular note is the black waistcoat adorned with gilded buttons and crisp white vertical pinstripes, layered over puffed lantern sleeves to establish dramatic textural depth. A broad brown leather belt cinched at the waist not only flattered bodily proportions, but also infused the look with the distinct flair of a medieval magical apprentice.
To transcend conventional tropes, we introduced plenty of additive styling accents. The oversized wide-brimmed witch hat was particularly dramatic, crafted from interwoven black and white lace with star-shaped charms embellishing the brim. My wig was styled in long, wavy golden-blonde locks, deliberately braided into two thick plaits draping down either side to accentuate youthful, coquettish charm. On the makeup front, the primary focus rested on warm reddish-brown eyeshadow paired with a porcelain-pale base and soft pink blush. Rather than forcing a cool or stern gaze, my expressions channeled absentminded reverie, languor, or contemplative daydreams. The lower-body styling was treated with equal care: the buoyant skirt was embroidered with golden filigree threads, complemented by white lace leg warmers laced with black criss-cross ribbon bows. Black chunky-heeled Mary Janes over white Stockings beautifully elongated the leg silhouette.
The most painstakingly crafted prop was undoubtedly the custom magic broom: far from a simple bamboo pole, it was sculpted from twisted branch-like materials wrapped in winding green vines and purple blossoms. The apex featured an exquisite metallic birdcage ornament, while the bristles below were bound with rustic hemp twine and silk ribbons, giving it impressive physical heft in hand.
During shooting, I choreographed various postures around these props. Standing upright while holding the broom in one hand evoked a resolute readiness for adventure. Seated atop the classroom desk with legs crossed and heavy volumes resting nearby expressed effortless nonchalance. Alternatively, resting my head against the desk with eyes gently closed or cradling my cheek in one hand captured relatable fatigue beneath demanding academic studies. The photographer, @三月的半, demonstrated masterful command over chiaroscuro and emotional nuance—the black-and-white dress popped with striking contrast against the stark white backdrop. The tailoring by @织女竹中玉子 was impeccably structured, offering superb comfort and zero constriction even through expansive poses. The entire session was a rewarding journey of exploring fluid postures to seamlessly weave Marisa's spirited, carefree nature into this fantastical scholastic world. The resulting frames aligned flawlessly with my vision of an unconventional magician, marking a truly fulfilling creative endeavor.
