This set of Amiya photos is backlog from last year, and today I finally had time to organize and post them. The shooting location was chosen as a set of somewhat abandoned concrete stairs; that mottled, rough industrial-style texture could form a strong visual contrast with the vibrant blue-and-black tones on Amiya's body. Light and shadow cast down through the gaps of the overpass, interlacing with brightness and darkness, which is exceptionally photogenic. Finding this camera position cost a lot of legwork at the time, but seeing the final photo results made me feel it was all worth it.
In terms of clothing, I am quite satisfied with the details of this set. The material of the long jacket is crisp, the black-and-blue color blocking is executed accurately, and the orange Rhodes Island logo print on the cuffs and back is also very clear. The inner blue-purple bow tie uses reflective material, which can refract different colors under natural light. To match Amiya's rabbit ears, I purposely selected the one with a relatively realistic hair texture, slightly adjusting the angle after putting it on to make it look more natural and vivid. The lower body features the classic blue-and-black plaid pleated skirt paired with black Stockings and brown platform loafers; the glossy leather of the shoes has great texture under the sunlight. The green ring ornament on the ankle is also a highlight—though small, it is extremely faithful. The metallic-textured choker around the neck also has some weight to it, but for the sake of styling accuracy, this bit of weight is completely acceptable.
Holding this official text artbook in my hands, using it as a prop is truly the most appropriate choice. The cover design itself has great texture, and paired with the book-reading posture—whether looking down to read or holding it in arms while staring straight into the lens—it anchors the center of gravity of the frame wonderfully. During the shoot, I tried several different states. In the shots of sitting and reading, I tried my best to relax, focusing my gaze on the book pages to build a quiet atmosphere. The daisies and sunflowers placed nearby can be considered a small touch of ingenuity, accentuating the cool-toned frame. Sometimes, to match this quiet atmosphere, even breathing would be intentionally lightened, allowing oneself to completely immerse in the character's state.
In truth, when portraying such a character with animal ears, aside from having proper costumes and props, body language and demeanor are also vital. The character Amiya herself carries a trait of resilience coupled with gentleness, so in expression management, I restrained my performance as much as possible, avoiding overly exaggerated expressions, and instead expressing more through the transmission of the gaze and slight head-lowering actions. A slightly sideways posture with crossed legs can also better elongate the leg lines, making one's overall poise look more elegant. In a ruin-styled environment, this quiet posture is even more eye-catching.
Looking back at this photo set, from preliminary preparations to on-site shooting, a lot of thought actually went into it. In such an outdoor environment, changes in light are extremely rapid, requiring the photographer to capture them keenly; sometimes, just waiting for a suitable beam of light meant holding a posture on the steps for several minutes. During post-processing, the gray tones of the environment were preserved as much as possible to highlight the character's colors, without excessive high contrast. Hopefully, this everyday-feeling photo set of reading on industrial-style stairs brings everyone a slightly different visual experience.
