[Li Sushang cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd Swordsmanship Journey: Frozen Moments of High Ponytail and Red Dress

"The first lesson of sword cultivation is tying a high ponytail"—this quote accurately captures the core preparation for this shoot. To faithfully recreate Li Sushang's look in Honkai Impact 3rd, smoothing out this reddish-brown wig and styling the high ponytail took considerable time. The wispy bangs in the front and the small white pom-pom hair accessories on top flatter the face shape nicely. The outfit's primary colors are red and black accented with white fur trim, giving it rich dimensionality. The skirt features black pleats beneath a red outer drape, paired with a red leg garter on the right leg for an Anime girl Leg garter outfit that flows dynamically with every step.

The prop is a translucent red longsword, lightweight enough for easy posing, yet conveying the commanding aura of a sword cultivator required conscious attention to arm muscle lines. To capture the dynamic sensation of drawing a blade in the wind, photographer @蓝桥desu repeatedly adjusted the fan angles to achieve the optimal flow for the high ponytail and skirt hem. The entire shoot was a test of stamina, especially holding the sword aloft for various frozen frames. We captured three primary perspectives: the full frontal composition with the raised red blade nicely accentuated leg lines; the over-the-shoulder look tested neck flexibility; and the slight side-stance stride showcased the side details of the black-and-red battle dress.

Post-processing focused on preserving natural skin texture while refining body proportions and restoring the golden-red patterns across the costume. A minor hurdle during shooting was the two long red tassels at the waist, which easily tangled around the leg garter whenever I moved, requiring frequent pauses to untangle with every new pose. In this kind of Cosplay photography, dynamic tension in posing matters far more than stiff standing—especially the harmony between hand strength gripping the sword and a sharp gaze, without which the shot would feel flat. The on-site studio lighting was balanced and even, avoiding harsh shadows so the glowing luminescence of the red blade could stand out in post-production.

The craftsmanship on both costume and props was solid, with black platform shoes adorned with white fluffy pom-poms making a crisp statement in frame. Checking the viewfinder after each set brought a great sense of accomplishment. While the high ponytail looked flowing on camera, it felt quite heavy between takes and easily blocked my line of sight—the price one pays to be a sword cultivator! Among the three photos, my personal favorite is the frontal shot for its smooth, cohesive lines. The red-and-black palette paired with a leg garter represents classic anime elements. This series not only documents my interpretation of the character in Honkai Impact 3rd, but also captures the physically demanding shoot itself. Retouching performed reliably without over-smoothing, preserving character authenticity. Finishing a set like this always feels like re-evaluating my craft in Li Sushang cosplay. Beyond dashing moments swinging the longsword, there are quiet pauses adjusting the wrist bracers. Because this gear is iconic, ample negative space was left before the solid backdrop so posing never felt cramped. Posing direction avoided rigid stiffness in favor of an effortless, relaxed swordsman stance to better reflect Li Sushang's inherent personality. Lighting red-and-black attire can easily turn muddy without proper care, but working with a skilled photographer made all the difference. Overall, the final output met every expectation, with the high ponytail and red dress fitting seamlessly into the world of Honkai Impact 3rd.
