[Sparkle cosplay] Elation in Honkai: Star Rail: An Unexpected Surprise Frozen in a Wide-angle portrait

Putting on Sparkle's mask, slipping into red-and-black heeled sandals, and carrying the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 out into the streets. Trying this ultra-wide-angle lens for an upward-angle portrait for the first time, I was initially quite worried about perspective distortion, but the outcome unexpectedly matched Sparkle's elusive, elation-filled persona.

The shoot took place on the 13th day of the fifth lunar month (noted as 20260613 in the post) along a commercial street at dusk. Because the lens distortion is so dramatic, the legs at the very foreground are stretched infinitely while the petite head is recessed into the background; this proportional contrast surprisingly suited Sparkle's haughty, look-down-upon-everything aura.

We designed several actions, including finger hearts, tapping the lens, and reaching out to grab the camera. This truly tested our mutual coordination and the photographer's candid capture skills; special thanks to photographer NightDiva for being incredibly patient throughout. The closer the lens gets, the harder focusing becomes, and the slightest jitter results in blur. As mentioned in the post, shooting with a wide-angle lens for the first time felt great—you just need very steady hands. The foreground limbs needed to look dynamic and impactful while keeping core balance rock-solid and still.

The most memorable moment was shooting the pose stepping directly toward the lens (the cover shot). To project that commanding presence of endlessly long legs, I leaned over the street railing, pitching my upper body forward while fanning out the skirt and thrusting the red heels toward the lens, taking countless shots before picking the single perfect frame. That is the magic of a Wide-angle portrait: it instantly stretches body proportions while making a petite face look even more refined. With the vibrant red-and-black outfit contrasting against the cool-toned nighttime neon background, the visual tension was maxed out. I originally feared the ambient lighting would blow out highlights, but the camera's highlight suppression performed remarkably well.

Post-processing didn't involve heavy color grading—mainly fine-tuning edge distortion while keeping a cute, playful charm. Gazing at that slightly hazy yet vivid Sparkle on screen felt like an embodiment of Elation in itself. Ultimately, photography is all about pushing beyond conventional angles, capturing the fleeting mood of the moment with sincerity, and breathing life into the character. This experiment gave me a fresh perspective on wide-angle lenses: they aren't just for landscapes, but can also render high-tension, exaggerated portraits imbued with distinct 2D styling. Compared to conventional eye-level shots, this spatially warped composition lingers far more vividly in memory. Though the process was a bit exhausting, seeing the final photos made every effort worthwhile. This was also my first time proactively thrusting my arms and legs close to the camera—super fun and thoroughly delightful.
