[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Spring Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom, Strolling Before the Torii Gate of Gensokyo

These cherry blossoms are in full bloom, perfectly setting off the bright colors of the red and white shrine maiden outfit I'm wearing. Taking advantage of the fine weekend weather, I specifically chose this garden with Japanese torii gates and stone lanterns to complete this set of photos. Reimu Hakurei's design is exceptionally iconic in the Touhou Project series, but combining it with the spring cherry blossom atmosphere this time brings a touch of softness inspired by the fanon \"Flower Reimu\" concept.

Speaking of props, besides the offering flag with long red and white ribbons held in my hand, there's also that wooden ema plaque with writing on it. Having these two small props in hand makes the standing poses feel much more natural and dimensional. Body language is crucial when cosplaying a character—for example, standing on one leg not only showcases the multi-layered ruffles of the skirt hem, but also makes the frame look lively rather than stiff.

Actually, I put a lot of thought into choosing the costume as well. The signature red and white pairing provides a strong visual impact, but if made from stiff fabrics, it would look overly rigid. Therefore, I opted for a softer fabric with a subtle sheen; the layered tiered skirt hem flutters naturally in a gentle breeze or when turning around. The looseness of the sleeves also had to be carefully balanced—retaining Reimu Hakurei's generous, easygoing visual character while avoiding excessive puffiness that could make my shoulders look wide in close-up shots.

For the wig this time, I chose a brown long straight wig, adorned on top with the classic red and white bow headpiece. As for makeup, I didn't go for overly exaggerated 2D style techniques, focusing instead on a clear, translucent base makeup. A soft pink blush was used to echo the cherry blossom tones and the warm colors of the outfit, while the eye makeup subtly emphasized the natural elongation of the lower eyeliner to make the gaze more focused.

The weather on the shoot day was actually overcast, and the diffuse light coming down was extremely soft without harsh light-and-dark contrasts, making it ideal for shooting this ethereal aesthetic. Without needing harsh artificial lighting, skin texture turns out much better under natural light. However, crowds during the cherry blossom season are truly massive. To avoid passersby in the background as much as possible, we shuttled between various empty corners, seeking angles with slight low shots or using large trees and stone lanterns as foreground obstacles, striving to capture both the torii gate and full trees of cherry blossoms within the frame.

Stone lanterns, as common shrine elements, served as wonderful shooting props. The final photo sitting on the base of a stone lantern—appearing casually to stretch out legs and arms—was actually designed to convey more outward extension in the frame so it wouldn't feel cramped. While making this pose, the combination of black patent leather shoes and white short socks added a touch of modern, playful flair to the lower half of the outfit, echoing nicely with the white-and-red-trimmed skirt hem.

Overall, the charm of this Flower Reimu fanon concept lies in breaking away from some of the original work's seriousness, adding a touch of spring tenderness and romance. Well-fitted clothing, natural expressions, and a carefully chosen location allow people to instantly feel the spirit carried by the character. Although running around during this outdoor shoot was a bit exhausting, looking at the final photos framed by floral branches and ancient wood grain made it feel completely worth it.
