For summer outdoor shoots, a Swimsuit is truly the most comfortable yet demanding subject. This time, I finally brought Robin's Sunny Song Swimsuit from Honkai: Star Rail to life. When shooting outdoor swimsuits in summer, the biggest fear is uncooperative weather—either blistering heat that makes it impossible to open your eyes, or sudden downpours. Our luck was fantastic this time: rain was forecast, but the skies cleared up right as we began shooting. Blue skies, white clouds, and sandy shores made the entire frame exceptionally bright and translucent.
For gear, we brought a Canon R6 II paired with a Tamron 35mm f/1.4 SP and a Viltrox EFR 85mm f/1.4. The 35mm focal length was superb for environmental framing on the beach, seamlessly incorporating the ocean view and parasol elements while shooting wide-open to max out atmospheric mood. For seated poses or strolling shots, we swapped to the 85mm lens to blur out the background and accentuate facial expressions and body language—especially the shot on the swing, where the creamy bokeh kept the frame pristine.
The trickiest parts of shooting a Swimsuit were actually styling and props. Robin's Sunny Song design features plenty of components: star rings, wings, sunflowers, and that microphone prop. To prevent the complexion from appearing dull under harsh seaside lighting, highlight and contour were deliberately recalibrated, and securing the hairpieces and props took extra ingenuity since coastal winds were intense. Striding across the sand in this Swimsuit while ensuring the skirt hem and sheer sash fluttered naturally demanded repeated posture adjustments. To capture candid strides and dance moments, I ran back and forth along the shore multiple times, completely ignoring sand piling into my sandals.
Given the Swimsuit cut and generous skin exposure, anti-exposure tape and heavy sunscreen were essential. With direct seaside sun making eyes squint easily, many frames required careful angles to dodge direct glare or used parasol shade for relief. Successfully wrapping this set was truly thanks to the blessed weather and the photographer's boundless patience.
From adjusting wardrobe folds and catching prop reflections in the sun to posing atop wooden boardwalk platforms against the backdrop, the process was exhausting, but seeing the blue sheer skirt billow in the sea breeze made every ounce of effort worthwhile. Hope this summer Swimsuit record of Robin's Sunny Song delivers that refreshing seaside breeze to everyone.
