[Qingxiao cosplay] Wuthering Waves: Qingxiao's Traditional Chinese style cosplay Reverie - Image 1

For this Qingxiao cosplay from Wuthering Waves, extensive research went into everything from the garment patterns to the prop nuances. The blend of traditional Chinese aesthetics with fantasy elements in the original design is remarkably captivating; upon receiving the costume, I spent much time contemplating how to materialize that cool, detached yet razor-sharp aura.

Let's start with the wig: this blue wig was styled with a high topknot bun and long sidelocks framing both sides, while the blue ribbons and hair accessories on the crown were kept restrained so as not to overwhelm the look, allowing for effortless, flowing grace in dynamic motion. To harmonize with the hair color, the eye makeup incorporated cool blue tones; however, to keep the entire look from appearing overly icy, a softer lip color was selected to give the face a livelier touch.

The costume contains an abundance of details. The top features a pure white base, adorned with golden embroidery across the chest and mandarin collar, which creates wonderful visual depth when paired with cyan tassels. My favorite feature is undoubtedly the pair of detached sheer blue sleeves; with the slightest lift of an arm during the shoot, the gossamer floated gently, capturing that poetic flutter of robes straight out of a wuxia novel. For the lower half, I styled white over-the-knee Stockings with white high heels, visually elongating my leg proportions. I feel this seamless blend of tradition and modern aesthetics aligns exquisitely with Qingxiao's character identity.

The prop sword was another aspect I was thrilled with. The hilt features intricate blue and silver filigree with a central teardrop gemstone of outstanding tactile quality, complemented by a specially selected soft-blue sword tassel. In designing poses during the shoot, I ultimately settled on this seated posture with crossed legs and one hand resting upon the sword. Qingxiao's movements shouldn't be overly flamboyant; they require a grounded relaxation where the gaze balances sharpness with effortless composure to command the entire composition.

The studio set also played a tremendous role. The white blossoming tree on the left and the carved wooden partition screen behind, combined with cascading blue-and-white drapery, established a deeply serene sanctuary. The floor was laid with white plush rugs alongside reflective mirrored surfaces; the subtle reflection of the legs introduced dimensional depth to the scene, keeping the overall framing from feeling empty.

When photographing characters merging Chinese aesthetics with sci-fi elements, the lighting cannot be too harsh. I asked the photographer to use a softer, cool-toned key light on the face while adding delicate rim lighting from the side-rear. This not only accentuated the jacquard patterns and embroidery on the fabric, but also brought out rich texture in the blue hair.

The entire shoot proceeded without a hitch; the split-second I stepped into the set wearing this costume, it felt as though Qingxiao's world had truly materialized. Every cosplay project is a brand-new journey, and translating flat character art into three-dimensional reality brings immense fulfillment. I hope everyone enjoys this rendition of Qingxiao.
