For this fourth photo series of Hsin from Wuthering Waves, the overall concept and styling embraced many fresh ideas. The costume's palette revolves around black, red, and white. The designer put immense thought into the tailoring: a black bandeau base layered beneath airy chiffon sleeves in red-to-white gradients, centered with golden accessories and blue gemstone inlays on the chest, finished with long cascading red tassels. The fabric boasts a graceful drape while walking, with expansive sleeves undulating alongside movements to create powerful visual drama.
Hair, makeup, and props took substantial preparation. The silver-white long hair had to be fluffed for airy volume, paired with oversized grey-and-white animal ears where golden floral hairpieces and rubies had to be secured meticulously. The makeup focused on the eyes—red contact lenses paired with generous crimson blending around the lids, accented by a delicate mole on the cheek, conjuring an agile allure tinged with a mystical, foxy edge. To honor the character, meandering red patterns were hand-painted onto my arms, and finger curls in standing poses and close-ups were deliberately rehearsed to capture the slender, predatory sharpness of a fox spirit.
The set design perfectly complemented this Oriental fantasy theme. The backdrop featured a massive warm-yellow circular light panel emulating a luminous full moon. Flanked by artificial pink peach blossoms, a wooden wall hung with calligraphy scrolls, a carved wooden armchair, and a plush white high-pile rug, the entire environment held fantastic dimensional depth. Light falling across the white wig and plush tail, paired with the red-and-black garments, created a striking high-contrast interplay between deep shadows and bright highlights that photographed gorgeously.
In posing design, I alternated between standing and seated stances. Sitting on the rug emphasized neckline contours and a glancing profile over the shoulder, where bare feet resting on the fur added an organic touch. Standing postures prioritized full-body proportions; lifting one leg while shaping both hands into claw-like mudra hand seals became my favorite dynamic capture in the entire set. Heeled sandals with transparent straps added a hint of maturity, creating an intriguing textural contrast against the massive plush tail.
The whole session was physically exhausting. Merely supporting the heavy ears and tail while recalibrating standing postures tested core and lower back stamina, all while keeping the drape of the garments orderly. Yet seeing the textural depth of the light and shadow and the visual tension in the final frames made every bit of dedication worthwhile. This rendition of Hsin infuses sweet charm with an aloof, bewitching aura. I hope the emotional resonance of these frames reaches everyone, and I look forward to unlocking even more styling variations in the future.
