[Iuno cosplay] Wuthering Waves Character Meets Yongqingfang Hanfu in Chinese-Style Fusion

This Wuthering Waves cosplay shoot of Iuno was captured on location at Yongqingfang, aiming to create an atmosphere blending ethereal celestial grace with the warmth of the mortal world. To match the character design, I made extensive modifications based on traditional Hanfu. A white wide-sleeved maxi gown serves as the visual centerpiece, layered beneath a sheer cyan-blue gauze robe and draped with a bright yellow silk pibo ribbon. When walking, the vibrant color contrast creates remarkable drape and flow. The golden heart-shaped openwork accent at the chest and the pearl-and-gold neck adornments faithfully capture the character's ornate opulence. For the hair, I wore a bright blue long straight wig styled into twin mini buns at the crown, adorned with white blossoms and golden tassel hairpins. The makeup favored a clear, cool-toned base paired with cyan-blue contact lenses and a subtle wash of dusty pink-purple at the outer eye corners, giving the gaze a colder, more detached aura.

Choosing Yongqingfang as the location allowed us to embrace both traditional Lingnan architectural charm and the refined elegance of classical garden landscaping. To achieve our vision, the set was layered with abundant pink cherry blossoms, red maple leaves, and a massive illuminated full-moon lightbox, constructing an otherworldly xianxia realm. In terms of props, I prepared an extensive selection: a blue-faced round fan, a calligraphy brush, thread-bound ancient tomes, delicate tea cups, and a guqin zither behind me. Shielding half my face with the round fan or casually plucking the strings before the guqin helped me effortlessly slip into character. Iuno's personality has many dimensions, so during the performance, I wanted to avoid a flat, emotionless expression. In several photos, tilting my head slightly or lightly tapping my chest with a finger aimed to convey distant aloofness tinged with inquisitive intrigue. The art style of Wuthering Waves has always been distinctive, and pairing game aesthetics with traditional Hanfu was a daring experiment. The resulting color clash turned out exceptionally textured under the combination of natural lighting and studio lamps.

Shooting in such multi-layered Hanfu is a serious test of physical stamina and patience. The wide sleeves are voluminous, easily obstructing vision or brushing against the face with the slightest move. For the seated shots, to showcase the gown's flow and flatter the leg lines, I perched sideways on a wooden chair with one knee bent and drawn up. The black beaded anklet was a deliberate styling touch—bare feet resting along the rim of the wooden chair created a subtle, compelling contrast with the classical mood. Raising a tiny teacup while meeting the lens required gentle control to keep the facial expression soft and natural under the light. Catching the wind in the sleeves was the hardest part; we had to swing the fabric repeatedly to capture that natural, billowing dynamism. The shot holding the calligraphy brush while reading also demanded a steady wrist and focused eyes on the page while keeping the facial profile sharp—quite a workout for the neck.

Yongqingfang's architecture added deep authenticity to this set: wooden lattice windows, grey roof tiles, and whitewashed walls melded wondrously with the character's fantasy essence. In post-processing, I intentionally preserved authentic skin texture and fabric folds, ensuring the finished cosplay photography balances 2D dreaminess with tangible 3D realism. From location scouting to styling, prep took over a week, with every single costume accessory curated by hand. Though shooting barefoot on cold wooden floors was physically draining, seeing that cool, mystical allure materialize in the camera frame made all the fatigue melt away.
