[Touhou Project cosplay] The Green hair Maiden in the Sunflower Field

For this Touhou Project cosplay photoshoot, a Sunflower field was chosen as the backdrop. When first reading the character description, this exact imagery came to mind: a woman with Green hair standing in a flower field holding an umbrella or flowers. While many feel this character should inherently be domineering or fierce by lore, I wanted to interpret an inner contrast during the actual shoot—a quiet, gentle serenity. She merely seems somewhat aloof on the outside, but is not truly intimidating.

First, let's review the makeup and styling concept. The wig features a light Green hair tone with thick-cut bangs that frame the face to look cute and petite while softening facial contours. Eye makeup used broad gradients of red eyeshadow paired with red contact lenses to emphasize depth in the gaze. A sheer yet transparent base foundation was applied to achieve a porcelain-like texture, accented with pronounced blush under the eyes and across the cheeks. Paired with the Red and black plaid skirt, this brings out an exquisite vintage fairytale or Lolita aesthetic. For the costume, red and black plaid is a timeless color scheme; this Red and black plaid skirt was paired with an off-the-shoulder flared-sleeve white blouse, where lace cuffs and neckline added overall opulence. The large bow at the chest with a red gemstone draws the visual focal point directly to this area.

It was very sunny and hot on shooting day, with soil and bugs in the field; yet to capture the depth and extension of the flower sea, we constantly shot from low angles to avoid cluttered backgrounds. The large white translucent umbrella brought along as a prop, paired with the Sunflower in hand, created a gorgeous interplay of cool and warm tones on camera while subtly diffusing harsh sunlight to keep facial lighting soft and natural. Posing was adjusted continuously with the photographer—such as turning sideways to look back or quietly sitting on a white mat—to seize that serene demeanor. Despite several mosquito bites, checking the camera screen and seeing the dreamlike shots made all the effort worthwhile.

In post-processing, focus was placed on color grading and contrast. The greens of the hair and environment were tuned to a low-saturation muted grayish-green for a refined texture, while the Red and black plaid skirt retained vibrant yet soft coloration. Facial retouching preserved skin texture and natural shadows without excessive plastic smoothing. This restrained editing aimed to recreate a soft, vintage film feel. The gentle lighting suits that warm yet subtly distant persona perfectly, capturing character contrast without hostility—which was my core goal for this Touhou Project cosplay.
