Today I'm sharing a set of official photos featuring Small Shun cosplay from Blue Archive. I chose a classic Chinese garden that aligns seamlessly with her temperament as the location for Outdoor photography, hoping to use the scenery to recreate her quiet yet slightly mysterious aura.
For hair and makeup, I adopted long straight black hair styled into twin tails accented with black-and-white braided cords. The cat ear headpiece combined with blue-striped geometric hair accessories serves as a highly recognizable focal point. The makeup aims for a clean, translucent base fitting 2D character aesthetics; eyebrows were shaped straight with a slight curve, and eye makeup focused on clean eyeliner definition rather than heavy color, aligning the gaze with her personality. Lipstick was chosen in a natural nude pink to keep the overall look balanced and unobtrusive.
The outfit for this photoshoot is a black modified Chinese style top with a crisp, clean silhouette that avoids looking bulky. A vivid green bow at the collar serves as an eye-catching visual anchor, breaking up the heavy black field. White printed patterns across the chest add detailed layering. For bottom wear, white over-the-knee socks expose skin along the thigh, visually elongating leg proportions nicely. The footwear consists of black Mary Jane shoes accented with yellow-green details, cleverly echoing the green bow at the neckline. This Chinese style outfit integrates traditional Chinese elements with anime aesthetic nuances naturally.
The photoshoot prop was a red striped elongated object resembling a uniquely styled popsicle. During posing, this prop offered a great hand accent—whether held by my side or raised near my chest, it solved the dilemma of hand placement effortlessly while infusing a touch of playful charm into the frame.
The outdoor venue was a traditional garden featuring ponds, rockeries, and bamboo groves. Posing seated on a grayish-white rockery stone flanked by lush greenery and flowing water, natural sunlight filtered through leaves to create beautiful light and shadow patterns across my outfit. Without relying on heavy studio artificial lighting, the ambient natural light proved sufficient to showcase fabric textures. This near-raw outdoor environment gave the photos a genuine natural breath, free from artificial studio stiffness.
For posing, rather than choosing flashy standing postures, I selected a seated shot on the rock for the cover. Crossing legs or letting them hang naturally with a slight forward torso tilt evokes a relaxed demeanor. Combined with a tilted head and direct eye contact with the camera, it captures garment lines and the character's composed aura simultaneously. This seated posture fully displays the white thigh-high socks and shoes, centering the subject cleanly within the composition.
During cosplay shoots, Outdoor photography often brings unexpected challenges; for instance, summer heat easily causes perspiration, requiring constant touch-ups to prevent makeup meltdowns. Throughout the session, checking if the wig got windblown was also necessary. However, the advantage of this outfit lies in its neat coverage—as long as sweat is managed, overall condition remains pristine. Navigating stone pathways and dense grass within the garden added walking difficulty, prompting careful movement that naturally slowed our shooting pace, resulting in more relaxed, serene final captures.
Each time I create a new cosplay project, my goal goes beyond mere physical replication to conveying the mood of a character within a specific setting. This Small Shun set utilizes black, white, and green as primary hues, blended with the tranquility of a Chinese garden to offer viewers an aesthetic distinct from typical campus styles. The photographer's framing was superb, handling spatial relationships between the subject, rockery, and bamboo flawlessly.
Overall, this was a delightful photoshoot experience—from garment fit and makeup completion to outdoor ambiance, everything fulfilled expectations. The final photos retained natural lighting and authentic colors without excessive retouching, hoping to present a genuine yet vivid portrayal for everyone.
