[Honoka Kosaka cosplay] Love Live!'s Dreamy Starlight Stage

This time, I shot the Honoka Kosaka cosplay official photos from Love Live!. The overall visual theme is set as a school idol under a sea of flowers and starlight, hoping to present a warm and energetic atmosphere.

To restore the character's temperament, a lot of effort was put into the costume and props during the preparation stage. Focusing on the flower crown on the head, many kinds of artificial flowers were selected, and finally the combination of small white flowers and green vines was decided. To create a feeling of natural growth, many invisible hairpins were also fixed on the wig. The orange twin-tailed wig was given a gradient treatment, paired with a blue-and-white ruffled off-the-shoulder dress, plus white lace neckwear and short gloves, bringing out the layering of the overall styling. In terms of material selection, the fabric needs to have a certain drape so that it can look three-dimensional and not thin under the lens.

The lighting arrangement during shooting is very crucial. The star lights and warm yellow light spots in the background were simulated through light strings and a background board. During shooting, I tried to open the aperture to the maximum to form a rounded bokeh, which can perfectly set off the main character and echo the flower crown element on the body. The close-up in Picture 3 also used cotton wool as a foreground occlusion, adding a hazy sense of breath, preventing the overall picture from being too rigid.

Regarding the grasp of character emotions, what is most attractive about Honoka Kosaka is her vibrant personality no matter what difficulties she encounters. Therefore, during shooting, the focus point of the eyes is very important. The first picture shows hands clasped together looking directly at the lens, conveying firmness and sincerity; the second picture looking back and reaching forward aims to express invitation and confidence; the third picture lowering the eyes and head shows a quiet and gentle side. During the shooting process, I would constantly recall the character's storyline in my mind, ensuring that movements are not rigid and the eyes are expressive by adjusting micro-expressions of the face and body amplitude. This is also the core of why cosplay official photos can touch people.

Actually, the environment during shooting was not easy. Although this dress is an off-the-shoulder design, the wig is heavy, and the flower crown also weighed heavily on the head. Coupled with the continuous baking of warm lights arranged for lighting, every time after finishing a shot, I needed to quickly retouch my makeup and rearrange the position of the wig. However, seeing the picture presented on the camera screen, I felt that all the efforts were worth it.

Every cosplay photoshoot is a re-understanding and interpretation of the character. To shoot good works, it is not just about putting on clothes and wearing a wig, but more importantly, integrating makeup and styling, scenes, light and shadow, and emotions together. In post-processing, I tend to retain the picture texture and warm light and shadow layers without excessive skin smoothing, hoping to present the most real yet dreamy moments. Turning love for the character into visible works is in itself a very sense-of-achievement thing.
